Kerry/Dean ticket?
Why not? Maybe I'm in the minority, but I think, what an energetic pairing this could make!

2. Because
two New Englanders isn't a good ticket. We should have a VP who can deliver more than Vermont. By that I don't mean Dean would ONLY win Vermont, but I don't think he brings any advantage in the states Bush won.

3. Would love to see it but
I'm still in the belief that a candidate shouldn't pick a VP who may or may not deliever a state. I like Richardson and would love to win Arizona but I don't think he is the best choice. Edwards if chosen probably won't give us NC or SC for that matter but think he is one of the better choices.

4. I think it depends on what happens with the war etc..
I think if all hell breaks loose in Iraq, Dean might be an excellent choice.

He is also a fiscal conservative and pro gun...

Carter thinks Dean would have appeal in the South, and SW ... I tend to agree.

But, I don't see it happening.

67. He would be the BIGGEST non-plus in political history
someone said to me early on - a politcal party officer - that Dean was "too short" - look at the man - he looks like a very negative hobbitt. His attitude is truly Napoleon and he is very repressed. He cannot help anyone win anything. They guy is a liar and a loser. To prove me wrong, he needs to unseal his records. The people that supported him (typically - not everyone) were people that identified with him in some way. What does that tell you?

This boys parents were getting divorced, and the judge was trying to determine custody of the child. He asked the boy if he wanted to live with his mom... he said 'no, she beats me.' The judge asks if the boy wants to live with his father, and the boy says 'no, he beats me.' The judge then asks 'who do you want to live with.' The kid replies 'the boston red sox. They don't beat anybody.'

ARGH. That was difficult to type.

21. Why do so many people here think there's bad blood
between Kerry and Dean?

Overall, I thought this was a relatively tame primary season. The animosity felt between Dean and Kerry surely does not compare with Kennedy/Johnson or Regan/Bush 1 during their primaries.

23. It's not actually a terrible idea, but...
...it just doesn't seem likely. Dean has some good VP qualities in terms of campaigning - he could make mincemeat of Cheney in a debate, since all Cheney does is lie. It certainly won't be a repeat of Lieberman's performance.

Edwards' has a lot of good qualities, much to my amazement. I've tended to find him a bit too conservative on some issues that interest me, but his stump speech addressing the contempt the Bushistas have for people who work for a living - that is gold, we need more of it.

There are actually a lot of good choices. But I'm not committed to anyone in particular. I mean, you know I'm gonna vote for them whoever it is.

106. Amen!
I've never seen the Kerry people attack Clark and his supporters the way many of the more vocal Dean people did. The Kerry people patiently endured months of attacks on their candidate and themselves back when a Dean win seemed a fait accompli. Karma can be a bitch sometimes.

I never felt any negativity towards Clark and his supporters from the Kerry people. It has made it much easier to come around to their camp. It would have been much more difficult for me had Dean won the nomination.

There's something about the phrase "you people" that gets under my skin.

Born here in this country and having lived here my whole life , I wonder if there's some peculiar/unique American tendency to win and then rub people's noses in it or is that just human nature?

In fact there was quite a bit of successful older supporters as well.

My impression of Kerry's base being bitter old maids and perhaps even drunks is mostly from here and in reading the anti-Dean crap on the Kerry forums. The reality is... his base were mostly the apathetic and least politically aware voters that decided at the last minute based on the Iowa and N.H. polls.

89. Here's an old link...
From a survey done by the Pew Research Center For The People & The Press

The survey detailed who supports the top-tier candidates.

In Iowa, Dean's supporters are likely to be young, college-educated, financially secure, liberal, against the use of pre-emptive military force and for gay marriage. Kohut called Dean's support "clearly the most liberal of the three front-runners."

Kerry's supporters share many of those tendencies - suggesting that the two candidates are competing for the same voters in Iowa.

Gephardt's supporters in Iowa are older, less likely to be college-educated, less financially secure, more conservative, narrowly in favor of pre-emptive force and solidly against gay marriage.

Union members in Iowa appear split almost evenly, with 28 percent for Kerry, 25 percent for Gephardt and 20 percent for Dean.

In New Hampshire, Dean and Kerry both appeal to college-educated voters, but Dean's supporters are more likely to be liberal and Kerry's are as likely to be conservative. Also, New Hampshire is more secular than either Iowa or South Carolina, and that helps explain Dean's strength there, the Pew survey found. Dean and Kerry split the Catholic vote in New Hampshire. Dean wins among Protestants by 2-1 and among those with no religious beliefs by 4-1.

immature that you don't know the difference? This could be part of your poll. There are people supporting candidates that don't belong in the "real" world. The real world being that world where we can all surivie in peace and unison. That world in which there are millions of lifes at stake - it's not like your back lot sandbox where you can draw a line in the sand. It's all of us living together in some sort of global economy - we certainly cannot call it quits at tge incistence of a political baby - we need to think of all mankind. Isn't that what the United States of America was founded on>

56. Don't see it happening... two new englanders
nah. Would like to see a mix of governor type experience on the ticket though (long since been a Graham fan - ironically as he is a bit to the right of me...)

The one advantage it would bring, is that Dean could be more pitbull - and rally the troops which respond to frustration and anger... and allow Kerry to appear more dignified - yet firm. The compliment with contrast could be effective - but would be risky - even without the dual new england dilemna. Don't see it happening, and while I like Dean, I don't really want to see it happen (too big of risks). Though I sure as h*ll would prefer Dean to say... Evan Bayh (why are some people still pushing THAT?!)

134. If they both weren't from NE, but they are.
It's one thing to have two Democrats from the south, Like Clinton/Gore, but two from the Northeast and MA and VT, at that. I don't think it can happen. Other than that, it wouldn't be bad, but that's a real problem. It's not just a matter of picking one who'll deliver a state, it's conveying an impression that this one, not at all universally popular, region is taking over.

160. Seriously, that would never happen because ....
the rules of politics is against it. It nothing personal on Dean - when a candidate loses the way Dean did, rising to the top for so long and then sinking like a rock, he is considered damaged goods.

Choosing Dean as a running mate would be political suicide for Kerry, and Kerry's poll numbers would tank overnight.

I'm being serious here.

Another reason is that Dean would be a distraction to a Kerry ticket. Kerry is the top dog, and Dean doesn't strike me as the kind of guy that can play second. He's gotta be the quarterback, and that's what people want who suggest he be on the ticket, really. Not a realistic ticket.

162. I'd go for Kerry/Dean
I think this would be a fantastic pairing, and absolutely no way would they make any assassination attempts on Kerry with Dean as vp. I know it's not gonna happen, but would be better than anybody he's considering at this time.

165. NO NO NO....
... JESUS NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sometimes I wonder about this board's collective sanity...hum we have Kerry Massachusetts Liberal (that’s not a criticism) and Dean who most Americans and democrats now see as "wild man of the mountains"....look guys I hate to be harsh but get a clue Kerry doesn’t need to energise the base with a VP pick as someone on the DLC right of the party like Bayh, Nelson, Rendell, Breaux or Lieberman would have had to do had they been nominated he needs a moderate............. Mark Warner, Evan Bayh, John Edwards, Bill Nelson, Bob Graham or Mary Landrieu are the options in reality people....get a grip!... and lets win this thing and not even entertain such suicidal thoughts!!! Sometimes I’m glad this board is not close to mainstream democratic sentiment hell if some of….sorry I’m getting mad… I my apologies

166. Most americans don't see Dean as a wild man....
I figure most americans don't know too much about ANY candidate.

Also, Evan Bayh as a moderate???

And I don't question MY sanity or anyone else's here, and please don't be dismissive of anyone's choices .....

My guard is up, it is whenever I read posts like this one. (the "right wingers are just regular joe moderates, can't you see that you deluded people" posts)

171. look man...
...i'm not aiming to be hurtful...I'm aiming to be reasonable...no way is Dean viable!...no way would Kucinich every be viable at even a state level!...no way!... Sharpton is a menace and a crook IMHO he's a demagogue who's in this purely for his ego and unlike someone like Kucinich who's views i respect and know him to be a moral kinda guy Sharpton is morally sucumspect.... now I'm sorry if what i said seemed harsh but its true you put Dean as VP kiss good by to the white house for another three years and get ready for filibuster proof GOP majorities in both the house and the senate... now I don't want that so thats why I'm urging some moderation here... :hi:
