Colorado may have a Dem Senator in November |
|
I can't find this news after searching back 3 pages of postings.
Ken Salazar, the enormously popular Dem state Attorney General is entering the Senate race for the seat held by Ben Nighthorse-Campbell. With Governor Ownes not running so he will have "more time to spend with the family", it leaves it wide open for Salazar to win the election. I don't know of a Repub who can beat Salazar <snort>!

1. I think that these days |
|
any Repub. has the advantage over any Dem in a statewide race. There just are too many Bushbots in our state.

But Salazar has the best chance of making a go at it. If we have presidential cotails, then he can win.
I'm not a huge Salazar fan, but he can help mobilize rural Hispanic Colorado for the Dems and that will be big.

4. The thing is that Salazar was elected |
|
and remains very popular. So, he's our best chance and a good one.
Btw, I was listening to Peter Boyles yesterday mornng. He was discusing Ben N-C and his guest pointed out that N-C only switched party to maintain his chairmanship of the Senate committee he chaired. It was after the Dems lost control of the Senate in Clinton's administration. He made a deal with the Repubs that if he switched parties, he kept control of the committee. This may be old news to everyone except me.

2. This seat could be a prime pick up for Democrats |
|
especially with Owens not running. I think Democrats will pick up Illinois, Alaska, Colorado, and Pennsylvania--I think Hoeffel will upset the long serving Specter. There is an outside chance that Dems will also pick up Missouri, imo.
The GOP will not sweep all four open southern states--with the exception of Georgia we have some good candidates--particularly in SC, with Tennenbaum and if Dems can tie the loss of manufacturing jobs--a big issue in SC to the GOP, Dems can retain SC.

Missouri is beginning to close (the latest poll has Bond (under fifty for the first time)-49, Farmer-39). This will become closer as Farmer is further introduced to the electorate and Kerry begins to heavily campaign in tossup state Missouri.
Democrats should pick up Illinois, Alaska, Colorado, and Oklahoma, and will definitely run strong in Pennsylvania.
Georgia seems to be a lost cause (and Massachusetts will also be a loss because Kerry will have to give up his seat), but NC, LA, SC, and FL are all four winnable, and I think there's a chance that, if Kerry's running strong, we'll take them all. This may sound optimistic, but let's not forget the 2000 race, where we won nearly all of the tossup seats.

The overwhelmingly democratic legislature may pass and override a veto by the puke governor taking his power to appoint a replacement for Kerry but instead hold a special election.

looked good until Coburn entered
probably has a much better chance than the other 2 republicans
'God' told him to enter to 'retake congress for the people'
sounds like he's running against the republicans

... and got behind Salazar tout de suite, which is an interesting comment on Salazar's perceived strength. Udall was quoted as saying: "This may have been the shortest Senate campaign ever. I feel like Adlai Stevenson, who said 'It hurts too much to smile, but I'm too old to cry.'"

...everyone on the Western Slope knows the name Salazar. :)
Plus the Dems are lining up behind this one, while there are still several Repubs jockeying for position.
