Bob Dole on MSNBC just used the word "cult" in reference to Obama |
|
Brian Williams interviewed him, asked his opinion about "the other side's" campaigns. He referred to Obama's campaign as being "like a cult", said it was like Mondale's "Where's the beef?" question re: no substance. Brian Williams responded that he sounded like GWB over this past weekend in what he said about Obama.
Sure signs of Republican surrogates: "cult", "no substance"

1. It's a standard rightwing soundbite. |

There was probably a memo late last week.
Like when the Daily Show shows a collection of clips showing all the RWers saying the exact same thing.

2. BULLSHIT! One who calls Obama's campaign a cult following... |
|
does not mean that they are "Republican Surrogates" as you say. I for one, find nothing wonderful about the Obama Campaign!

22. Fact of the matter is: the words that we use matter |
|
The words "cult" and "no substance" when applied to Obama have become right-wing talking points and most like will continue to be so if Obama wins the nomination.
Like it or not, when we usse those words in regards to Obama, we associate ourselves with our right-wing opponents and in a sense, become their surrogates.
Some say it was Hillary's advisor Mark Penn who first gave voice to the "cult" phraseology. If that's so, he gave ammunnition to the Democratic Party's opponents.
Each of us is entitled to our favorable and unfavorable opinions and concerns about each of the candidates, but I think it behooves us to not use our opponents ammunition against ourselves.
Thanks for your reply.

3. You'll have to forgive Dole |

He got his nuts crushed last week by the conservatives over his letter to Rush defending McCain.
He's trying to regain his manhood by taking cheap shots against the likely Democratic nominee.

no matter how much he tries to make nice with them before the election. He's trying to present his appeal as a broadbased appeal but Republicans will try to tear him to shreds when the time is right.

24. Well, I am livid and outraged. |

This cult meme makes me quiver and shake with RAGE. How dare they???????
How dare this asshole Bob Dole call 9 million Americans members of a cult? How dare this asshole that supported a war that killed 4,000 and counting U.S. Soldiers call 9 million Americans members of a cult. HOW DARE HE CALL THE VOTERS OF 19 STATES MEMBERS OF A CULT. HOW DARE HE CALL THE VOTERS OF VIRGINA, MARYLAND AND D.C. MEMBERS OF A CULT.
How dare they!!! This is a blatant ploy just like the Rove tactic of telling people in the south that Kerry will take away their bibles was. Now they are appealing to southern voters by calling Obama a scary cultist.
Bob Dole just said that a democratic presidential candidate was a cultist (cultists are people like David Koresh and Jim Jones).
Bob Dole just said that Barack Obama is like David Koresh in a defacto way.
THIS IS AN OUTRAGE. I'm quivering. I'm livid.
How about Bush and his evangelicals coming out from their little corners to vote for him just so gays wouldn't get married which would apparently ruin their lives? How about Huckabee? Is he a cult?
And thanks Hillary Clinton. Your campaign's chief strategist Mark Penn came up with this line. Thanks a lot.

I have never referred to Obama's followers as a cult. For one thing, I have a very different sense of the word since I'm a Pagan. No, I don't belong to a cult, but I'm sensitive to those who do.
