OK. Hillary is starting to piss me off.
And you don't care.
Why should you?
;-)

But this nickel and dime crap about 'plagiarism' is just...well...PICKY.

It's third grade stuff.
"TEACHER! HE SAID A BAD WORD!"

And it's not doing her campaign any good at all.
"Oh gosh. Obama repeated something in a speech that some other guy said in a speech. WELL! I sure can't trust the guy now. Or vote for him."
How juvenile is that?

I'm still ABBoMc..
Anybody But Bush or McCain.
If she gets the nomination, I'll vote for her.
But now I'm feeling more 'hold-my-nose-and-do-it' about it.
Damn.

OK, hit me with your best shot.
<dons body armor>
:-)

91. Not true - there are threads through his books and the 2004 convention speech
that are consistent. I saw a Patrick rally in 2006 and there is a great deal that is similar in the two campaigns. They have Axelrod in common, but so did Edwards 2004 and he sounded very different from them.

Here's a little test though - see if you can do either of these for Obama and Clinton:
- Close your eyes and remember (at least close to) word for word lines they have said. I can remember some Obama comments, but not HRC ones.
- Consider if you can "hear" either in printed text of their speeches or comments.

Everyone has a speechwriter, but I assume that many add there own pieces. You can also tell that his off the cuff comments have some of the same words, phrases and feeling. This was even true with some things I've heard him say in the SFRC over the last few years. Although those hearings were on CSPAN, it is highly unlikely that someone scripted his comments then.

I WILL vote for Hillary if she is the nominee, because she'll be much better for our country than McCain would. But, I'll have to hold my nose as I do it too because I think Obama is the president we need for this country right here, right now.

56. I normally would agree. I have never voted Republican in my life.
I won't this year either. However, it is getting harder and harder to hold my nose to vote for Hillary this time after all this negative crap. She won't win anyway. I just hope to hell Obama gets the nomination. After all this, I may vote for hillary if she gets the nomination, but only if she wins the popular vote in the primaries. Normally, I would just go along. But heck her sole motivating force is power, and she will do ANYTHING to achieve it. I am really not so sure I can vote for THAT. She has a LOT of convincing to do for me now. And it should start by her stopping this negative dirt mongering. It is really sad, because when this campaign began I respected Hillary and wished her well, even if I preferred Clark at the time. I never dreamed her campaign would be so crass or so craven.

6. It is picky. And stupid. And yet...
It is EXACTLY the type of attack the Republicans will make. Rove's mantra is "attack the strength". He loves to hit an opponent RIGHT on the strongest thing.

Obama's strength is his eloquence. If Rove is able to attack that, and make it seem contrived and fake, it will really hurt -- when it counts.

If Obama can weather this, and it looks like he will, he will be the stronger for it. Far better for this thing to get over with now, than next September or October.

but my wife is so furious with both Clintons she is threatening to sit the general election out.

And this is a biggie with her as she has voted Democratic in every presidential election since we've been married (Johnson v. Goldwater in 64 was the first).

I think she has picked some very poor advisors which is not a good omen for her potential cabinet and presidential staff.

Up until today, I was perfectly content with supporting and voting for each of the candidates.

In one fell swoop (if you'll forgive the plagiarized phrase), she just became a very unappealing candidate.

Our party could have done so much better than bringing back last decade's rotting detritus as the height of what we can offer.

You can just wait for Drudge and the RWers to break the story soon. If I heard it on C-SPAN, of all places, THEY know about it. Go ahead and let the McCain camp use it against him in the GE...should he be the candidate. It'll destroy the Dems chances of winning. It needs to be addressed before the election, but go ahead and keep your eyes closed. You'll see what will happen soon enough.

And put his name in the place of the original speaker's name.

Obama quoted his friend, with whom he had worked to develop a lot of the material they both use, and in some cases didn't attribute him.

If we are so dumb as to nominate someone with such high negatives we deserve 4 years of McCain!

You know why McCain will thump Hillary? It is not because Americans would prefer a Republican, they don't. But they would rather have an authentic president than a phony. McCain is not what Americans would prefer, but they sure as hell don't want a phony politician who doesn't care about anything except total absolute power.

30. I'm pretty sure "real deal" and "Copycat" have been used in the past. You fail
at my "authenticity" (tm Little Star) test.

33. Maybe she's realized her best chance is to try to get Obama expelled...
to bad for her that a campaign isn't like a school, where you can get expelled for plagiarism.

34. Trust
Jesus said words to the effect: "If you cannot trust persons in little things, you cannot trust them in greater things."

In any case, using someone's unique, creative phrasing without crediting that person, IS NOT A LITTLE THING.

40. Jesus also said, "Let he that is among you that is without sin, cast the first stone"
I'm sure Her Holiness never uttered a phrase that was unoriginal without making sure there was an attribution.

Right?

42. Aw hell. I got your virgin post. The very first one.
I mean, you gotta start somewhere and you started with ME!
I am touched.
Thank you very much poomie.
It's a high honor and I do not take it lightly.

Jesus said that?
Or words to that effect?
I guess that blows me out of the water.
Dern.

If Jesus said it, then it must be true.
Can you give me a reference?
Like maybe chapter and verse?
Thanks.

And welcome to DU.

41. I think she does a disservice as the first viable female presidential candidate by living down to...
...a very ugly stereotype.

She could do so much better and I'm deeply disappointed in her as a person and as a candidate.

I would never in a million years have guessed she would run her campaign so badly.

49. Whenever I think Hillary is someone I could support in the general election
she goes and pulls a Karl Rove and I remember how disgusted I am by how shes run her campaign. I go from thinking I can't vote for her to thinking I have to vote for her. If shes willing to throw a fellow democrat under the bus what else is she willing to do? Does she only care about herself and not the party? I keep going back and forth.

50. Out of all the attacks, this one is the most petty.
Maybe it makes Obama look like a copycat (though I'm perfectly happy with his explanation that he and Duvall Patrick freely share speech material.)

But it makes Hillary's campaign look really petty. Instead of talking about things like his health care policies or his experience or his Iraq votes, she makes this attack over a speech.

Is she that desperate for something to stick that she'll resort to this crap? Apparently so.

52. The phrase that comes to mind on her latest attempt at relevance is "low rent"
Does she REALLY have to go out of her way and prove that she is exactly the kind of person the right has always painted her as?

but why the f*** is Obama recycling speeches? That is extremely poor form.

Hillary is losing people left and right over her ridiculous tactics.

69. Yes I considered her one of my role models and voted for her twice for senate when I lived in NYC
When she came to my campus, I saw her speak and was very impressed and proud. But whats shes doing to her fellow democrat is disgusting to me. It seems as if she just wants to take him down on character and not issues. I just don't want anything to do with that. Save it for repugs, not your fellow dems. I know i'm not the only one whos sick of how petty this is.
