Kerry = Stalin *read before flaming* |
|
I'm certainly not suggesting Kerry is anywhere near as evil or anything of the sorts. But here's a good analogy to you to use on your Green and Nader-leaning friends.
in WWII, the Allies didn't trust Stalin or the Soviets one bit. They knew they were in many ways no different from the Nazis, and would one day become their enemies. But at the time, it didn't matter. Hitler HAD to be stopped. beating the Soviet Union had to wait. They had two evils, but one evil was the far great threat, and they had to side with the other to defeat it. And then, later down the road, the Soviet Union was toppled as well. You can't fight two enemies at once, it's better to side with the lesser threat at the time to defeat the greater one, and then defeat the other enemy. We need to defeat * now, and then later, when the radical right/PNAC threat is gone, we can destroy the DLC.
Of course I consider Kerry to be a lot more different than * than Stalin was from Hitler, but the folks you think there's no difference might have to think that way.

I like that... it explains how * is the real threat that Americans need to concentrate on now.

Bad, bad, analogy.
If I have to bring up Hitler and Stalin to get someone to see that Bush needs to be defeated, I'm talking to a moron who is sorely lacking in cognitive abilities.

Personally, I think it's a waste of time and effort trying to convince people who voted for Nader in 2000 to vote for Kerry in 2004. If four years of Bush couldn't convince them, Stalin-Hitler analogies certain won't.

6. Thanks, I think I'll stick to a good slap upside the head in such debates |
|
At this point anything more subtle is a waste of my energy, I feel. Sorry.
Anyway, there's a good chunk of them that staunchly won't admit that one evil *is* the far greater threat, and will continue to do so right up until the Reichstag goes *foom* and the long knives start a-stabbin'.

7. This is one of the worst ways to make the point- but the point is not bad. |
|
Needless to say, you'll get all sorts of crap for making the analogy in this particular way.
But, setting that aside, all you're talking about is the principle of "the lesser evil." That's just what Kerry is, & the "lesser evil" argument is the only real reason to support him.
