If Hillary doesn't win the nomination, in one way it will almost be a relief for me
that she doesn't have to be the target of so much hatefulness and spitefulness ever again. If anyone deserves a break from all that rotten shit, it is Hillary Clinton. If anyone deserves to live out the rest of her life in relative peace and harmony, it's Hillary Clinton. If anyone deserves to simply be able to get up in the morning and go to work without having to be the brunt of everyone's barbarous attacks, it's this wonderful lady.

The Right Wing has mocked her, slandered her, and crucified her from Day One. Many of you have mocked her and attacked her savagely. The media has mocked her and crucified her ever since they found out she was ambitious. And for what? It's all because she was Bill Clinton's wife and a brilliant independent woman who was not afraid to speak her mind and shoot for the stars.

What this intelligent and ambitious lady has gone through over the years should never be experienced by another human being in this country again.

So if Hillary doesn't get the nomination, I just hope people leave her the heck alone after that. Let someone else find out what it's like.

52. You do my candidate, Obama, no favors by ridiculing Downs Syndrome kids.
Edited on Tue Feb-19-08 11:11 AM by Divernan
I'm going to alert on this because it ridicules the Special Olympics, retarded children and Downs Syndrome kids in particular. However, there are so many alerts around here, it seems to take an hour or more to get a response.

On edit: OK, let's time this. I alerted at 11:05 EST. Between now and when this offensive post is removed, I urge anyone else who finds this post offensive to back me up and also alert or comment.

I am blessed with 3 adult kids, each with advanced college degrees, but I worked with families of autistic and retarded kids. Sometimes the parents were in their 60's & 70's, so I worked with mentally retarded and autistic adults also. My work involved a special task force to draft and enact protective legislation due to the profiteering "group homes" and the substandard, sometimes lethal "care" provided therein.

Maybe you are so young and have so little experience of this world that you think it is funny to ridicule the mentally retarded. All I can say is shame on your parents that they didn't raise you with human compassion. Go volunteer at the Special Olympics (as 2 of my kids did) and then tell me I'm wrong to condemn your cruel insensitivity.

up on Obama?

You MUST have that wrong. Hillary is the only one they go after. YOU know that!

Never mind that her campaign was harping on it, as reflected on this board, while both Obama and the person he supposedly plagarized BOTH said it was NOT plagarism.

Accusations are on page 1 top. Retractions on page 13 bottom.

Hillary's campaign now says it was no big deal - all out of proportion. No harm, no foul.

but we need that and MORE to get the White House, and the Democratic Party deserves someone who isn't tied to lobbyists at the hip. I wonder who she was 'fighting for' when she was working for Wal-Mart? What about her tax returns? All the other candidates released theirs. Get over your idolatry of her and try and be reasonable.

17. good point. i've worried about that myself.
The term after Bush will be an extremely difficult one. My boyfriend always says no matter who wins, they will be mired in the bullshit that Bush passed along. Sometimes I think...Hillary might be a better president to deal with what Bush passed along, and then Obama will come along after and his will be a transcendent presidency. But then I think I would really love for Obama to be president now and heal old wounds and show the rest of the world we've grown up. Its a dilemma for me.

22. I don't think HIllary feels that way
If there's one thing you can say about her, she's always known how to stand up to all the negativity. I don't think she'd be running if she cared about the hatefulness. It comes with the territory. Obama will get it too. (Indeed, has gotten the beginnings of it.)

But the idea about feeling relieved if your candidate doesn't win the nomination does ring true with me. But for other reasons. Having cast a vote for Obama (though with some wobbling), I would be somewhat relieved if he didn't get it because, given the shape this country is in, and given the expectations, I fear he would not be able to live up to them. I might feel the same way if I'd voted for Hillary: that it might not go well for her as a president.

In the end I guess we have to get over that and just keep our fingers crossed that one of these candidates will be able to deliver on the promise to restore some modicum of economic and political well-being to the nation and its people, to end the war, and to start to rebuild our position in the world. Neither will accomplish it all, and the path will be difficult.

30. I have never understood the animosity
toward Hillary Clinton. Maybe it is age-related. Maybe it is just the populace mimicking the media. I happen to think she would make a marvelous president. She is mature, intelligent and has our best interests at heart. All our candidates have been worthy. There seems to be only 2 left. I know young people like Obama. That is fine. But I want someone who can really kick Republican butt and Hillary is that person. They have been on her case since before '92. This country is in such a mess it will take someone of her caliber to handle the job.

people would have more respect for her. But no. Between the Rovian smears, the transparent attempt at gaming the system with Florida's and Michigan's delegates, and the stated intent to override the will of the voters with superdelegates, she's turned me off completely.

My advice to her, bow out gracefully and go back to the Senate. Assuming Obama rakes in a few more victories, it's perfectly honorable and reasonable to bow out - nobody would fault her for dropping out with some grace for a change.

Keep in mind that true hatred for Hillary is not felt by Obama supporters. If she wins the Dem nomination (and I'll support her candidacy if she does), then she will be subject to a tidal wave of hate like she has never seen. It will make the Kerry and Gore campaigns seem civil.

Quite simply, she brings that out of the conservative element, and she knew that going in.

You're just another sad, pathetic, whiney, Hillary supporter who can't face reality.

I don't have any more time to waste on a chronic nag like you.

Can you imagine having that much hatred bottled up inside and that much free time on your hands to express it? Wow!!

You take care, too, my friend :)

Or did you just make that up yourself on the fly?

I don't know why you hate so much but I have to admit I have hard time reconciling your posts with any prospects for change OR hope.

66. I've read your posts enough to know all you do is complain about Obama posters.
So I do not care what you think. I only respond to you because occasionally someone needs to tell you what an obnoxious, annoying person you are. How's that constant nagging working out for you? Great, I'll bet.

54. Then why do you think we should support her?
Hillary Clinton is the most unfairly vilified person ever. She simply cannot catch a break, either from the media or the progressive community. I'm not debating that because I do think there's a lot of truth in what you say. My problem is with the Clinton supporters' argument that this incredibly maligned and compromised candidate is the one who can win.

I just don't get it. Why would you want to put up the candidate who starts with 47% of the country disliking her? I don't buy the "there's nothing worse that can come out about the Clintons" rationalization either. There's always more that can come out, or be made up and when your negatives are that high to begin with it only takes a percent or two to tank you.

I don't get it. Can someone please explain it to me?

here or in the rest of the GOP world - sorry, but this board has became its mindless mirror. Warmonger, torturer W didn't get a tenth of the venom in 8 years that I am on this board.
If BO loses to McCain, it will be the Clenis's fault. if he wins and stumbles in his job, it will be Clenis's job. Always. His entire candidacy has been paid and bullhorned to erase the Clinton presidency from the history books.

Poor Hillary, who was paid for campaigning for her husband...

Poor Hillary, who was able to give birth to a healthy child...

Poor Hillary, who has always had health insurance...

Poor Hillary, who lived in the lap of luxury as first lady for 8 years...

Poor Hillary, who has Secret Service protection for life...

Poor Hillary, who easily won a Senate Seat... (thus a salary for life)

Boo Fucking Hoo Poor Hillary, who thought she was supposed to be annointed the Democractic Candidate for President of the United States, and was wrong. Give me a fucking break....she baked her cake and now she can eat it....

95. Why, for one second, do you think any politician
would not be expecting attacks by the opposition?

Hatefulness? spitefulness? for pointing out that she has made mistakes in the campaign, that she lost control of campaign finances, that she cannot control her staffers and especially that she cannot control Bill.

Do you honestly believe that, experienced as you say she is in politics, she was unprepared for fairly minor criticisms from her own party?

Do you think that she would not have expected far worse from the Republicans?

Women can be successful in politics and in the harshest environments, Thatcher, Gandhi, Bandaranaike, Meir are wonderful examples. If Hillary is the delicate flower you make ker out to be then she does not deserve to be President

99. I feel the same, plus...
...no one will ever be able to say "I told you so!" if she were to lose the GE -- or the first time she screws up as Prez.

I doubt that I will be big enough to rise above a big, nasty finger-wagging "I TOLD you so!" display when Obama loses the GE / fucks up badly... but at least I can admit it.

There's one more reason to hope Hillary doesn't win the nom/GE: She doesn't deserve to be stuck shoveling the shit out of the barn after Bush is done with it.

Whoa... I almost feel sorry for the next Prez, be it McCain or Obama.

(Note: I said almost.)

P.S. For real, mtnsnake? They're not going to "leave her alone" -- they're going to find a way to blame all of President McCain's / Obama's fuckups on her. Guaranteed.

101. Two scenarios--1)McCain takes the general, so she runs again in 2012.
2)Obama takes the general and his lackluster performance makes the scales drop from everyone's eyes; she runs against him and wins. (This open primary sh*t needs to get the heave-ho STAT.)
