Another PA Superdelegate for Obama; Carol Ann Campbell Endorses Obama
Obama Picks Up Pa. Superdelegate Endorsement
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) ―

Barack Obama has picked up a third endorsement from Pennsylvania's Democratic superdelegates.

Former Philadelphia city councilwoman Carol Ann Campbell says she made up her mind Saturday after a telephone call from the Illinois senator's wife, Michelle.

Campbell says they talked for nearly 90 minutes—about the problems of the handicapped, children being raised by their parents and the importance of religion in their lives.

Campbell, who's previously said she was undecided, says she's comfortable with what she heard and decided on the spot to support Obama over New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

With Campbell's endorsement, Obama is backed by three of the 26 superdelegates selected so far. Clinton has been endorsed by 13 and the rest remain undecided.

How to woo a superdelegate

The Democratic candidates and their surrogates use patience, persistence and a personal touch. A Michelle Obama phone call persuades one to switch sides.

WASHINGTON -- Before the telephone rang at 10:03 Saturday morning in her Philadelphia home, Carol Ann Campbell was inclined to use her position as a superdelegate to the Democratic National Convention to make Hillary Rodham Clinton the party's presidential nominee.

By the time she hung up, Campbell had been persuaded to throw her support to Barack Obama.

On the other end of the line was Michelle Obama, 44, the Illinois senator's wife. In that 1-hour, 27-minute call, the would-be first lady made the sale.

Now, she said, she is beginning to talk to the city's two dozen or so black ward leaders, trying to entice others to the Obama camp.

Campbell, a former councilwoman, said she was distressed to see race injected into the campaign. She said she was unhappy that after Obama won the South Carolina primary, former President Clinton compared Obama's candidacy to that of the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who won the South Carolina Democratic presidential primaries in 1984 and '88 but had little support elsewhere.

And she was dismayed by a comment from Rendell that Pennsylvania's white voters might be reluctant to vote for Obama. "What does think has been going on across this country?" Campbell said, referring to Obama's recent string of victories.

2. I Believe Obama Is Going To Do A Lot Better In PA Than The M$M Thinks...
I talk to a lot of people here that strongly support Obama. I'm also starting to see a lot of Obama '08 bumper stickers.

3. Be careful with your enthusiasm
As of this moment, Pennsylvania has two hits against it that might mean it "doesn't count":

1) It has yet to vote, and still might go against Senator Clinton
2) It's kind of shaped like a box, which has been a leading indicator of states that don't count.

I just didn't want you to get your hopes up.

5. I would be THRILLED to not count!
Anyhow, I live here and am volunteering for Obama, so I'll have to risk the enthusiasm. I've already experienced the heartbreak in NJ, having volunteered there too, so I think I can handle it.

;)

6. Too bad
I've been led to believe that New Jersey counted. I'm uncertain if you guys had pulled it off if it would have counted, but it might have!

This joke premise? It's never going to wear thin.

9. Sorry, New Jersey DOES count...
Despite my group's efforts otherwise. And I'm right with you about the joke.

Hillary Clinton for President of the United States that Matter!

4. How can she be ready to lead on day one - when she forgets to file full slate?
http://atrios.blogspot.com/2008_02_17_archive.html#129224423607171512

Ready to Lead?

Not exactly confidence building.

Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign failed to file a full slate of convention delegate candidates for Pennsylvania's April 22 primary.

This despite the possibility the primary proves critical and despite Clinton owning the full-throated support of Gov. Rendell, state Democratic Party leadership, Mayor Nutter and, presumably, the organizational skill all that entails.

And despite a Rendell-ordered extension of the filing deadline that could be viewed as more than just coincidental.

8. I am dying to know if my congressional district is one of them...
Edited on Tue Feb-19-08 03:05 PM by Kristi1696
I'll bet it is. There are two congressional districts that just about cover Philly, so I'd be shocked if mine wasn't affected (since another source mentioned that "two districts" were affected in Philly).

Lol, lol and LOL! I am loving this, considering my student group pretty much gathered all of the signatures for Barack's delegates in my congressional distict. That this was literally our grassroots organization versus theirs makes this oh-so-much-sweeter!

ETA:
I'll have to send an e-mail to my group about this!
