Know thy enemy
As painful as it is to relive the events of 2000, there is much to be learned from examing the words of Bush during that campaign.

Examining what was said then in the context of what has since happened is invaluable.

Check out the debate transcripts.
http://www.debates.org/pages/debhis2000.html#oct17

Here's one gem from Bush...
"A leader also understands that the United States must be strong to keep the peace. Saddam Hussein still is a threat in the Middle East. Our coalition against Saddam is unraveling. Sanctions are loosened. The man who may be developing weapons of mass destruction, we don't know because inspectors aren't in."

and another (inregards to use of the military)

"And the exit strategy needs to be well-defined. I'm concerned that we're overdeployed around the world. See, I think the mission has somewhat become fuzzy. Should I be fortunate enough to earn your confidence, the mission of the United States military will be to be prepared and ready to fight and win war. And therefore prevent war from happening in the first place. There may be some moments when we use our troops as peacekeepers, but not often."

Reading through the transcripts served as a reminder that Bush did an excellent job of disguising the true impact of his tax cuts.

His skills of deception should not be underestimated.

Good grief, and the masses jus don get it to the full extent of his/their ineptness.

They wanted and got the "Control" and look at the mess we in.

The Pubs and their philosophy comes out on the weak and counterproductive side big time. We could be so much better, das fer sure. Look at the big picture... its all spin man.

3. Control...yes, control...und ve vill haf order
Look what's happening in Russia, with the people electing all these old KGB guys because they believe that's the way to regain order and control the chaos. Heh. Better the devil you know, than the devil you don't know.

It started with electing Putin. Remember how W said he'd looked into Putin's soul? That always gave me a bit of a shudder: son of old CIA man bonding with old KGB man.

I didn't vote for Schwartzenegger, so I was interested in the comments people made when a tv-cam was stuck in their faces. "Strong leader," stuff like that, but the harmonics were all about his image as a guy who can go in and beat the crap out of people to restore order, the kind of order that doesn't leave much room for ... oh, I don't know, messy democracy maybe.

So guess what went through my mind when I read that somebody wants to amend the Constitution so the big guy can be president... I rejoice every time he opens his mouth and says something that rattles the cages of the fundies.

And I keep hoping that the neo-cons and fundies now in power will keep overreaching themselves in their greed until the voters finally get it that these people are not our friends.

We can do so much better. I want my country back.

Hekate

2. Underestimating the "skills of deception" by our current administration
is one of my biggest fears. They are so good at it that I can ALMOST see where they are coming from sometimes. Not that I believe a word of it but I can see how other people who are less knowlegable could be easily fooled. I have often found myself thinking "if I didn't know x, I might believe that."

I have to believe, though, that many things are becoming more widely known b/c I talk to LOTS of people who say "Don't vote for *, no matter what." I am encouraged by how much the average person does seem to know.

the sanctions and complaining they hurt Halliburton's business interests...I had the link in old DU. I will have to go find it.
