When will this country get real debates?
Edited on Fri Feb-22-08 03:37 AM by TheUniverse
I just watched the debate on youtube. For anyone who missed it, here is a link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVs0BfCBuRg

I noticed that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama got in a great debate on healthcare. They spent about 4 or 5 minutes outlining their differences. The CNN moderator decided they were getting off script and decided that they needed to move on. Thats a bunch of BS. 40-50 million people are uninsured in this country and healthcare deserves more than 5 minutes in a debate. What made that even worse was 10 minutes before the healthcare question they brought up the Deval Patrick issue, which is meaningless and means nothing to the people of America. But healthcare means everything, and that was ridiculous that CNN moderator decided to cut that debate off just when it was getting substantive and informative. Just when I thought I was gonna learn about the differences in their healthcare proposals, CNN decided to get in the way. The healthcare crisis deserves more than just being another issue equal to the "plagarism" charge. Hell, it deserves a whole debate centered around it.

When are we gonna get real debates about issues that really matter and not questions like "Are you the change candidate?" "are you a leader?" and "Did you plagarise a speech that a cochair of your campaign gave you to use?"

1. I agree, especially with just two of them
Give them four or six topics and turn them loose for ten-fifteen minutes. I thought that was very good. I don't know why they think it's helpful to have 20 debates with the same two minute responses to the same questions.

2. Because the media

has to control things, that's why. The last thing they want is an honest and uninterrupted discussion on the issues.

It's all about the media and it's control over the election process.

The country will get real debates when enough people like you stop watching corporate media (infotainment) and turn to public funded media for information over flashy graphics. So long as you play their game they will keep playing it.

5. It's too much theater and not enough substance...
A debate with NO AUDIENCE should also be held. How many times did Hillary raise her voice slightly, while making a point, giving her cheering section the go ahead to start screaming and banging on their chairs....pathetic.
