Kerry hits the slopes, shrugs off assault
John Kerry returned to the ski slopes Saturday, but found time to fire back at the strongest criticism he's gotten to date from President Bush. "Today, George Bush proved to the American people that he is incapable of solving our economic problems for the simple reason that he doesn't see them," the Massachusetts senator said in a statement issued as he enjoyed the Sun Valley ski country.

Bush said at a campaign rally in Orlando, Fla., that the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee has a "tax gap" and is a leading opponent of tax relief. "Over the years, he's voted over 350 times for higher taxes on the American people," the president said. Kerry campaign aides initially were left to respond. Then the candidate joined in, saying in the statement that 3 million jobs have been lost during Bush's term. Kerry described that as the worst economic record since the Great Depression.

"The Bush economic policy has failed," said Kerry. "It's time for America to move in a new direction." Kerry's campaign said he's consistently favored middle-class tax cuts, rejecting Bush's charge. "If all the tax cuts John Kerry supported over his career were enacted into law, the tax burden on the middle class would be significantly lower than it is today," the campaign said.

<snip>

"It is remarkable that this president doesn't understand the basic economic assumption that a jobless economy means nothing to the millions of Americans looking for work or wondering where their next paycheck will come from," said Kerry. Wade said the Kerry campaign is working on an aggressive strategy to use a series of high-profile speeches to make clear the candidate's differences with Bush. The addresses, to begin this week, are intended to appeal to voters willing to look at alternatives to Bush.

4. I love this picture:

Reminds me of touch football on the White House lawn in the snow...

I am really liking this vacation. I think it's a great idea. We can't just see Kerry attacking and defending, attacking and defending, attacking and defending.. it gets old. This is like America's vacation from Kerry.
