Once folks figure out that all of this was done on the same day......they are going to be pissed.
Hope she's not gonna be proud of him in this forum, since she was ashamed of him in the last setting.

47. I wrote this on your thread earlier |
|
I disagree with those who think Hillary is present to try to fight back and win the nomination by winning back Black voters. She doesn't have time for that strategy to take root before TX and OH. Certainly she doesn't have time for that when it means less time spent in those states now in the final days. It this was an Hispanic Conference in New Mexico, I could agree it was part of her primary strategy. That isn't what her appearance is about today. It is for the long run at a time when the short run is closing on her fast.
For Hillary Clinton her campaign now all boils down to two weeks and every hour counts. I doubt there is anything she can say at this conference that will turn many Black voters, who are overwhelmingly supporting Obama at this point, away from voting for him in Texas and Ohio that she could not better say in Texas and Ohio, and no matter what - Hillary Clinton can't realistically be looking for the Black vote in two weeks to turn her campaign around in those states.
Hillary Clinton's short term need is to spend every minute possible campaigning for the votes she is most likely to win. This doesn't meet her short term needs, it meets her committment to restore good ties with the Black community that have been frayed by this nominating contest - but that is a long term need, and not even a critical one from a self serving perspective if she does not become our Presidential candidate. Hillary Clinton takes her black support in New York seriously, but she doesn't NEED to cultivate it now to defeat a Republican in New York in 2012.
Hillary Clinton is there because as a leader of the Democratic Party who was invited she feels she should be. And because she knows that the Black community matters and that bad blood between Democrats and the black community will hurt the Democratic Party and probably the black community as a result. It is the right thing for her to do but it isn't the right thing to do for her campaign right now - just the right thing to do.

So I guess that means their votes are unconditionally hers, now, right? If you want to be totally honest about the situation and the state childern's insurance program, Ted Kennedy was the bull in the senate working to get that thing through. Hillary basically had to beg Clinton to sign it. I guess I'm glad she had that kind of pull.

African Americans don't need her - Oh really. Do you think Obama has a chance in hell of making any "changes" in policy without her help? The answer is NO. If he is elected President Hillary can help him from her senate position. Actually, I believe she will be pushing him (more than helping him) because I see no evidence that he cares about the AA community. That is her agenda - not his.
If she was as small as you are she could tell him (and you) to fuck off and that would be the end of his hope for any sort of relevant presidential term. She, however, is an adult - unlike you.

Sigh. Typical Hillary Supporter rhetoric. You're lashing out at me simply because I speak the truth. Who the fuck is running for office right now? This would be Hillary and Barack, right? Who needs votes to get nominated? That would be Hillary and Barack. Who is BEHIND in votes and delegates? That would be Hillary. Who does she need to vote for her? That would be the VOTERS.
She does NEED us. I don't NEED Hillary for anything. I don't depend on government to supply my needs. She depends on US to put her in power. It. is. as. simple. as. that. Now run along.

Not mad at her for it. But that's exactly what she was doing.
And Obama was campaigning, as well. They each decided to campaign where they needed to attract more votes.
It's not that complicated, yet people insist on turning all of this into something it's not.

The applause has been infrequent, tepid, and polite.
But the shots of the audience tell a tale, and that tale is one of disdain and disbelief.
Many won't even applaud obvious applause lines that are designed to beg for applause.

This is the group of HC supporters that stay to cheer her on.
And ~ some were there to hear her because the Clinton's were an important part of history.
There were not too many shots of the audience and all of the panel left thank goodness.
Tavis of course is her big fan so it was nice that the two of them were able to have a good conversation.
I noticed that she was smart enough to not slam Obama before this crowd.
In fact, this crowd may not have seen her slamming our "Good Brother Obama" because they were attending the Summit.

I really don't feel bad for her at all. She did this to herself. They had no problem stooping low and using the racial fears and bigotry in SC to ratchet up their tired campaign. The wagging of the finger. Trying to create this war in the black and brown community. Trying to pit us against each other. Then running off and hiding their hands, blaming it on OBama's camp. If they didn't know, news gets around fast in the black community. They have officially pissed off black America. It will take a lot more than some speech at the Black State of the Union to fix this. We are loyal as hell and we don't forget. The Republicans haven't gotten any significant amount of the vote from blacks precisely due to this loyalty, even when a lot of Democratic policies and programs have worked against us. But trust me, the black vote is getting WISER and our vote will not be taken for granted again.

I told DU this would happen |
|
I called it when it was going down and Hillary supporters here didn't want to hear it. This was and still is hot stuff on black radio, the black blogosphere, black churches, etc. The Clintons took a chance and decided to play on racial fears and then send their black surrogates out to say Obama was "playng the race card", and they assumed black folks would forgive and forget, as we always have done with Bill and Hillary, and get behind them in November. It's backfired to the point where this woman, who last year was getting cheers at this same event at the mere mention of her name, can't even get people to give her anything other than polite applause. It's sad but she brought it on herself.

131. Hillary when she is talking spontaneously |
|
goes into a sincere conversational tone, an ernest tone, but she talks right over her potential applause lines because she usually isn't even thinking of setting them up. I watched her do that several times during the question and answer session. People started clapping and she was continuing on with her thoughts. She doesn't use a cadance to build emotion, it's just not her. But she was giving thoughful answers. I think she was reaching people during that session in the thoughtful way that she encouraged and, in a sense, allowed with the style of presentation she gave.
She got a nice response at the end of her comments, stronger than the applause that closed the event for sure.

It's very simple.
When you see a putrid, hate-filled, sexist post on DU as it pertains to Hillary Clinton....do you voice ANY objection at all? Because I have NEVER ONCE seen you chime in. Never.
As a woman...do you have ANY threshold?
As a Bi person, can you honestly look inside yourself and forgive Obama for his gay bashing? His pandering for votes by hiring a gay basher? The kind of person who says YOU can be CURED through prayer? Can you honestly defend that?
Pardon me. But I am beyond tired of this kind of double speak.

Hillary was talking to people, not delivering a speech or building on emotions. She was being thoughtful and I think the crowd was also during the question and answers. During the speech part she did come across as flat because she was scripted then and did not build emotions and reach out to connect with people while doing so.

139. Yes. When our nominee is chosen, not while camps are still competing |
|
Hillary Clinton could not have been more clear that she will give her full active support to Barack Obama if he wins the nomination. She has been clearer and stronger on that point than anyone else. No comments about not knowing if her supporters can be transferred. Just a flat out assertion that we can and must come together behind our nominee.
I caught an interesting message in her comments. It is very unlikely she would take a fight all the way to the convention. She stressed that she expects the delegate issue to be worked out, and she said she expects our nominee to be known by June.

is shared by a great deal of peope in the black community.
If he'd gone, some would use it against him.."Wow Obama went to the black symposium, did he or does he plan to attend a white one, how about an asian or latino, one? See told ya, he's for black America only, he has an agenda and will put them first, we'll be forgotten and left in the dust!"
For Hillary, it's free air time (which she needs because she broke) and of course, people will look at it differently for..."Wow look, Hillary cares about the issues in the AA community, she's great to walk into such a hostile crowd, she's so courageous, even when they vote against her!"
Bottom line, there are enough black leaders to attend SOB conference, as evidenced by the number of them on the stage and in the audience. Barack Obama is running for President of the United States, not President of Black America. It was smart concentrating on the big picture..and as a black woman, I support his decision 100%..
Now, you got anything else Elsie?

175. Hillary had promised Tavis to be there and she fulfilled her promise. |
|
She could have easily found an excuse to avoid going, but she took time away from her campaign to fulfill a commitment. It must have taken guts to show up at a place where she knew that she would confront a somewhat hostile audience. It was interesting for me to see that the people who applauded her the most were women, while the ones who sat on their hands were primordially the young men. No surprise there, as a lot of young white men would have done the same. Checking out many blogs, not just the political ones, it always surprises me to see how many young men who have been born at the latter part of the 20th century can be so sexist. I would have expected it from older men, but not young guys growing up in this time and age.
I digressed, but I think that she did well and was treated with respect. They may not have been overly enthusiastic, but I'm sure she didn't expect it. I'm glad she showed up while none of the other candidates bothered to be there.

Does "hostile" mean a lack of enthusiastic support? Was it the fact that no one bum-rushed the stage for a chance to kneel at the feet of the Queen and touch the hem of her pantsuit? All I saw were people sitting in their seats listening. I didn't hear any boos. I mean, "hostile" is a pretty strong word to use for CIVIL BEHAVIOR.

A potentially hostile audience. Is that better?
No need for the sarcasm, considering how the media fanned the race card, it wouldn't have totally surprised me if they had booed her or never applauded. Instead, she received a polite reception and I'm glad that it went pretty well.
