The next flap: Clinton MOCKS Obama on the stump...
CNN just showed live footage of Hillary at a rally in Rhode Island where she mimics Obama making over-the-top statements about how wonderful and easy it's going to be to change things.

This one will come back to bite her too.

No video available yet; they're still streaming the event. Did anyone else see this?

157. Funniest Part - Obama's been saying "Change is Hard" since early 2007
And even in his speech announcing his candidacy - he says "This will not be easy"

In fact - "Change is Hard" and change requires participation - is practically the central theme of his campaign.

That is precisely why his message is compelling - because he speaks to the need for ALL of us to WORK for change.
Not just talk.

Can't wait to see another idiotic attempt by Mark Penn & Mrs. Clinton blow up in their faces! ROFLMAO!

18. Nope. He has always said IT WON'T BE EASY.
The Clinton's have destroyed any good will I had left for them.

If she did pull this thing out, she will lose all those first time and young voters that Obama has brought into the fold.(hell, she is losing this 62 year old who has ALWAYS voted Democratic, too)
I believe she KNOWS she has lost and STILL wants to trash our party.

SHAME ON YOU, HILLARY CLINTON!

20. "We know the battle ahead will be long."
"But always remember that, no matter what obstacles stand in our way, nothing can stand in the way of the power of millions of voices calling for change.

We have been told we cannot do this by a chorus of cynics. And they will only grow louder and more dissonant in the weeks and months to come.

We've been asked to pause for a reality check. We've been warned against offering the people of this nation false hope. But in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope."

- Barack Obama, New Hampshire Primary Concession Speech, January 8th, 2008

Mock it all you want, Senator Clinton. But it's a message that resonated in Iowa, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, Utah, Maryland, Georgia, Connecticut, Delaware, The District of Columbia, Idaho, Virginia, Alaska, Alabama, Hawaii, Arkansas, Colorado, Maine, Louisiana, Illinois, North Dakota and Washington.

And he never said it would be easy. He just made it look that way.

6. Saw it. Something about the heavens opening and choirs singing.
It was the most eye-rolling, nauseating stump speech I've ever seen her give.

Interesting to see that this is the way she's going to go into Ohio and Texas. It's as if both Mark Penn (attack Obama on hope/change message) and Bill Clinton (attack Obama on health care as its a Dem primary red-meat issue) are both winning some kind of battle for her soul.

One thing that I have found so disheartening about Clinton's campaign is how malleable it's been. She's never been able to just stay on message, and that's probably because she hasn't found a message that works yet. But this constant fish-out-of-water flopping and flailing is just painful to watch.

60. That's been her biggest problem all along.
Edited on Sun Feb-24-08 03:53 PM by BattyDem
Every week, it's a different message and/or a different voice. Who is she? What does she stand for? What does she believe in? I'm not seeing a person with conviction, I'm seeing a person who will say or do anything to get a vote. "Just throw it all out there and see what sticks" is no way to run a successful campaign.

It's a shame. I've always liked and respected Hillary. I used to say that I would vote for her without hesitation if she ever ran for president, though my feelings have changed a bit in recent years because of her strong DLC ties. However, up until recently, I would have been perfectly fine with voting for her if she got the nomination ... but now I would have to "hold my nose" to do it.

I wish she would just stop ... for her sake, for the sake of the Clinton legacy and for the Democratic party. This is not helping anyone. It's sad and painful to watch. :-(

Exactly. It's this mish-mosh. I almost feel like the most diehard of Hillary supporters are projecting something onto her that, frankly, is no longer there.

It's bad politics. It's also losing politics... she couldn't name one time where going negative on Obama's message worked for her. That they're going back to the losing playbook ought to startle any poltical watcher.

Obama could easily make a case that this wouldn't be any way to run a country, either. And Frank Rich made it all the more clear in his column today... that her relationship with Mark Penn resembles, uncomfortably, a Bush/Rumsfeld alliance. Stubborn meets stubborner.

That's a good point. How can she be ready to lead the country "on day one" when she wasn't even ready for a challenger in the primary? I have never seen any candidate so COMPLETELY UNPREPARED for a primary challenge!

33. Presently,the Obama movement does live in a "Truman Show" fantasyland
One day very soon, as if on cue, the corporate media will turn on Obama and his movement and the pleasant media environment now enjoyed by them will turn into a hurricane.

Besides even if Obama somehow wins, look at the lack of impact that Deval Patrick has had. Hillary is just being the adult.

62. This is the Mark Penn side.
According to the news articles detailing the piling-on of leaks coming from clearly disgruntled Clinton staffers, Penn's been urging her to attack Obama on his hope/change message, and to claim he is unfit for the office.

Yesterday, she showed her Bill Clinton side when attacking Obama on the health care/NAFTA mailers. The same staffers say Bill urges her to go on the attack, but on issues rather than charachter, and especially red-meat Dem issues such as choice and health care.

Thursday during the debate, she showed her Mandy Grunwald side during that valedictory segment at the end. It's also the side likely closest to the real Hillary, and the side I admire the most. In fact, if she had just been Hillary from the beginning, without these advisors sitting on her shoulders playing devil/angel, she'd be in a much better position today. New Hampshire embraced the "real" Hillary, and even I had my heartstrings tugged watching her at the end of Thursday's debate.

It's really been the most fascinating campaign, practically Shakespearean, honestly.

31. This is actually tragic
I used to admire Hillary. In the 90s she was a female role model for me. I gradually lost a lot of illusions about her, when it became clear that she was an "anything goes" politician, but this has become sad.

If she loses the nomination, how will she cope with going back to work and being effective as a senator? There is more than one way to serve America, as Gore, Dean, Kerry, and others have demonstrated, but I am not sure she realizes this. Was her Senate seat always meant to be a launchpad and nothing more?

And for the sake of all women who aspire to national office, I wish she would be more dignified. The sexists in the media will use her behavior to slur all women.

C'mon, Hillary. There are things in the world that are more important than your ambition.

Hillary should have studied up on how to be a strong woman and still get elected. Thatcher has plenty to teach any aspiring politician, no matter how you feel about her policies.

Anyone who has ever heard an Obama speech knows he tells us it won't be easy. He says it every friggin' day, every speech!

What the hell is wrong with her?

If she's going to go after Obama, she might want to try some facts next time.

that party of her stump speech to be that shocking. What I did find shocking was the fact that she basically said no one can get rid of the special interests in DC and that "you can't wave a magic wand" to get rid of special interests, and what's the big deal about special interests anyway, it's not about special interests because sometimes people just have a difference in opinion.

Her crowd ate it up.

The best thing that could ever happen to the Democratic Party would be to see the Shrums, the Penns, the Wolfssons, the Carville-Matalins of the party melt away forever. The people have moved on, and its time for them to go run some shitty Clerk of Courts campaign until they figure out what it was they used to believe in, again.

Kudos to Axelrod/Plouffe for running the most effective, most lean, most positive campaign we've ever seen, and with the grassiest roots to boot.

enjoying it, really.

respected woman.

130. Not really.
Kinda sad to see her meltdown, of course in the same vein it's pretty damn funny.

I'm actually kinda glad to see her supporters not bitching and whining incessantly. A little red meat for them, so to speak.

Enjoy.......

120. Oh my my my...I only heard it the first time. The VIDEO is much worse
with her overexaggerated movements and gestures and facial expressions. It clearly shows she has indeed lost all dignity and any positivity she may have once had. I have always admired her for her strength, but that's gone now. In my opinion, what she's been doing does not come from a place of strength, but biterness and desperation, and it's coming out in an ugly, sad way.

131. It is indeed painful to watch
What is even more panful though is the damage she does to Obama's candidacy if she continues like this. How much more fodder will she provide to be used and rehashed in the GE? I HOPE that whoever in the party hierarchy is in a position to actually do anything about this are trying their best to stop it ASAP.

142. I saw it. She makes a good point. Obama does make things seem easy.
He has that way about him. And whether it will be an asset to him as a President is for people to decide. She gets to ask the question. This is a campaign for god's sake.

147. This is really her Dean Scream moment.
It is so over the top and bitterly condescending. She should just STFU at this point and take her sorry-ass road show home for good. :dem:

155. Oh, she wasn't just mocking Obama. She was mocking his supporters. You know, the ones
she needs to convince to come over to her side, to prevent her from staying a second-place candidate.

What an idiot.
