****A request to all the people posting on this board****
Before clicking "Post message" please reread your post. Ask yourself, "would this post also fit over at the Free Republic?" If the answer is yes (because it attacks a Democrat) either reword it or delete it. We shouldn't be doing the freeper's work for them. We shouldn't be helping them find dirt or good arguements against Democrats.

you're a republican (even though I voted for Kucinich in 2004)

you're a right winger (even though I have marched in 3 stop the war in Iraq marches)

you're a commie (because I have a two beautiful Shepherd Fairy lithographs in my signature)

Stop the rhetoric, when you post some sort of snarky remark like that in response to someone making a good faith effort it's a bit like pot meet kettle.

In case you're wondering. A court appointed lawyer has the ethical charge to give her client the best defense he or she possibly can that a high paid attorney does.

It's the system. It's not HRC's fault. Get over it.

Like Hillary has? No thank you, no thank you at all.

My intention is to fight for Obama to get the nomination because I believe he is the best suited Democrat for the job. Unless that Obama graphic got on your profile by accident, I suspect you share that view. Now if he doesnt make it and Hillary is the nom, I will pin on the noseplugs and vote for her, and then steel myself for a McCain win because that's exactly what I believe will happen if McCain meets Hillary.

That shows unerring support for my party. But it also acknowledges cold reality as I see it.

And really why? Is this board and its contents going to make a big difference with voters in Tx or Ohio? Hardly. So what I really see is a lot of frustration, tons of toothless trolls and rudeness among people who assume that a "process" requires this degree of nastiness.

Sorry for both candidates really. But I do not see where one candidate is any more a victim of bad posts on GD/P than any other.

And that will probably end out discussion but I thank you for your civility. Believe it or not Ernest, I do read the posts that you create that illuminate BO's positions. I respectfully decline to open the crappy posts on either candidate and frankly I think that many other people do too.

That we refrain from self destructive behavior. I don't have the authority or inclination to make rules or give orders. I hope that our common desire, to see the Republicans go the way of the Whig party, would be enough to get all to agree to the request.

Remember the republicans have their man already picked. So they have ended their infighting and are all lining up behind McCain. The WORST thing we could do is help them attack the Dems, still runing. We don't have to give up supporting our candidate, just stop tearing down the other one.

42. It might be part of the process, but it's often in violation of the rules of this board
There's a difference between "attacking each others nomination candidates" and criticizing them.

It's not an attack to point out candidates' shortcomings, but it is to heap calumny upon them. I see the calumny-heaping a lot here, and it never changes a single person's mind - but it does lead to flame battles that wreck discourse.

Just sayin'...

Subsectin: Democratic Candidates and the Democratic Party

Constructive criticism of Democrats or the Democratic Party is permitted. When doing so, please keep in mind that most of our members come to this website in order to get a break from the constant attacks in the media against our candidates and our values. Highly inflammatory or divisive attacks that echo the tone or substance of our political opponents are not welcome here.

You are not permitted to use this message board to work for the defeat of the Democratic Party nominee for any political office. If you wish to work for the defeat of any Democratic candidate in any General Election, then you are welcome to use someone else's bandwidth on some other website.

Democratic Underground may not be used for political, partisan, or advocacy activity by supporters of any political party or candidate other than the Democratic Party or Democratic candidates. Supporters of certain other political parties may use Democratic Underground for limited partisan activities in political races where there is no Democratic Party candidate.

Do not post broad-brush smears against Democrats or the Democratic Party.

27. Ripping on McCain= GOOD// Ripping on Hillary or Obama= BAD
We need to focus on the enemy, not fight ammoung ourselves. Remember the GOP has their man and are forming behind him. We don't have to line up behind either one, yet, but we need to stop ripping our own.

49. After the nomination, that will be the way it is.
What you arent getting is that BEFORE the nomination, ripping on each others candidate is part of the process to bang out our nominee. What is so hard to get about this?

Also consider that we are giving valuable training to whomever gets the Democratic nomination, for what they will be up against in the GE with Rethugs. This is NOT a bad thing!

55. Honestly, what I think you are not getting is the repukes
Are done ripping on each other. They have now started uniting. How big of advantage that will be, is dependent on our own behavior. We can still compete in a positive and respectful manner or we can help the freepers by tearing our own down and giving them good arguements and info.

60. The bare knuckle politics of the primary season is a GOOD thing
It is the crucible that forms our candidate to go into the GE, and hones their campaign skills so necessary for the fight. Do you honestly think the Rethugs are going to just hand their play book over here before they start?

26. Right on
We don't need to use or condemn democrats, especially Bill Clinton whom many people consider to be one of the best in fact one of the five best presidents of all times, he isn't running for president.....

Now some of you get angry with Clinton because he wants his wife to win, but remember Hillary was such a promising person just out of college, that many of her P. in college and her friends thought she was giving up a promising life to marry Bill Clinton, many thought she would be a great judge, but no matter what was said she come on to Arkansas and married the young southern lawyer, it is my opinion that Bill Clinton in all probability would never have been President of the United States of America with out Hillary at his side,he probably told her he would let her have her time, and he is doing his best to do just that. You are only doing damage to your candidate, when you bash one of the 5 best president of all times, you are worse than republicans were bashing FDR.

62. I hope most people heed your request
There will be some, of course, who won't. They crave attention like my cat craves catnip. Some of them probably don't even support any candidate, they just want to tear down someone. I picture them as posting, hitting "My DU" every two minutes to see what kind of destruction they've began and how it's all going.

79. You are that Nader supporter, that called me insane and stupid
I remember you. You are one of the people, the Dems need to be worried about. You are one of the people benefitting from the Dem's self destructive behavior.

76. Nicely said.
I really think it is the responsibility of supporters of both candidates to start reigning in their strays. And i thank you for attempting to do that.

It casts a bad light on all of you to have some of these people out there spewing their hate. And it certainly does not help your candidate.

I have seen some really nice examples of rather senior DU'ers openly confronting some people today. And it was people on their own team. And it gives me hope.
