A thread comparing the Clinton Campaign to a LYNCHING gets 25 recs?
I would like to thank the great majority of Obama supporters who showed class, humanity, and a knowledge of our history, for not recommending such a thread.

Thank you all, very much.

16. The "strange fruit" thread is not locked.
Apparently it is now ok on DU to compare Hillary Clinton's campaign to the lynching of black people.

Will any Obama supporter speak against these tactics, or do the 25 recs speak for themselves? Is every Obama supporter in agreement with this comparison? Hillary Clinton's campaign is the same as lynching?

it's cloaked in a kind of pseudo-intellectual garb that's intended to make it more palatable or something. I can understand how it would leave you feeling disgusted with Obama supporters, but I'm not sure why you'd transfer that to Obama himself. I've seen posts here comparing Obama to Jim Jones and to to Hitler, by Clinton supporters, but I know Clinton has nothing to do with what posters on the internet do.

The OP in that thread is just extremely clueless, I say that because the alternative is far too horrible to judge based one one post.

Needless to say, That post is repugnant. It needs to be locked, and it needs to drop to oblivion post haste.

I honestly don't get this. Even if you don't like Clinton's policy proposals (which are pretty standard, and there's no chasm between her and Obama, as countless people have pointed out) and you prefer another candidate, what's with the demonization? I really do think that there's a bunch -- and not a fringe bunch, either, though it's become standard to dismiss them as such -- who think Hillary Clinton is the enemy here.

45. I thought it was much worse than usual.
I might be biased. I studied African History and the history of the transatlantic slave trade. I read first-person accounts of the horrors of slavery and Jim Crow.

No matter how much a person might disdain Hillary Clinton, comparing her campaign to the systematic torture and murder of generations of people is totally over the line. It's a slap in the face not just to her campaign, but most of all to the millions of people who were victims of these horrors. It's a slap in the face to anyone who has ever fought against these horrors.

Such comparisons cheapen discourse to the point of meaningless. If Hillary Clinton is as bad as the Ku Klux Klan and her advisers are as bad as Nazis, then there must not be anything all that horrific in the world - the Klan and the Nazis are no worse than a Democratic campaign for president. That's the overall message and I abhor it.

53. Excellent post - this primary has raised the bar on "trivializing for points and profit"
Everything is used to score points, from the war in Iraq to human rights abuses to Gitmo to the KKK. We are given the signal for a insta-identification of victims, villains, and enemies. It does cheapen discourse, you're right. I'm not sure what means anything anymore.

As I said in another post, the race is basically over. And in spite of some concerns I harbor about Obama, I will fully and completely get behind Obama as the nominee and will support and vote for him.

But of course, I have to have people spit on me right before I do so. Because I supported Hillary Clinton. Because I participated in a "lynching".
