Why Hillary should stay in until the very end |
|
Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 08:17 PM by quinnox
One word, uncertainty. What if the Rezco trial blows up in Obama's face? (It starts soon)
What if some other scandal erupts from Obama's past? (cocaine, etc)
Or what if something completely unforeseen happens and Obama can't fulfill the duties of the Democratic nominee?
Hillary should be the reserve candidate just in case, you never know what the future could bring.
so Hillary should stay in even if she loses Texas and Ohio, for a back up in case fate intervenes.
edited for spelling: lol if I say one word I better spell it correctly!

3. Which is why she should, like Romney, "suspend" her campaign and STOP ATTACKING OUR NOMINEE |
|
...if one of those "unfortunate" things that you are hoping for happen, then she simply "unsuspends" her campaign.
That would be the RIGHT thing to do.

After the convention, we won't have Hillary Rodham Clinton to kick around any more.
Apologies to Tricky Dick Nixon.

5. Then she should--as Romney did--suspend her campaign, |

on the off chance that McCain/Obama blows up before the convention.

7. She should stay in even if she loses Texas AND Ohio? |
|
Even though losing both states would prove she has no real support anymore?
I agree about the idea of a backup candidate, but why does it HAVE to be HRC?
If she were nominated after losing Texas and Ohio, we can assume she'd have no chance of winning in the fall. No one who was that badly weakened in the primaries could ever be popular again.

18. That's why he doesn't formally drop, he just suspends. This is why Edwards suspended his campaign.. |
|
he retained the right to his 26 delegates which may make the difference.

Technically, she will be in until the end. So the delegates and supers can change their vote if they need to.

10. Tim Russert Just as much as said he will bring up Rezco |
|
tonight. So We will see if it "blows up" in Obama's face.
I think tonight may be the final major push on the Rezco.
We'll have to see how Obama handles it to know the result.

Then they can all say the Rezko problem has been laid to rest when they put their objective pundito caps on.

12. I figure both will stay in until there's a clear delegate advantage - |
|
then the runner up will bow out.
Hopefully both candidate's delegates - as well as earlier committed delegates - will have some say in the platform that comes out of the convention for the General Election.
I expect it to be a good convention, all around.

14. You could say the same thing about absolutely any other candidate... |

but at some point uniting around the party, and fighting the "real" battle against the republicans is important...
Throwing the "kitchen sink" isn't helping anything...

15. Good Points you make...and for those of us "who've been around awhile" |
|
through these election cycles...we do wonder what happens when OBAMA is the last one standing...given that we've not been able to TAKE BACK our MEDIA as hard as we've tried since 2000 Stolen Election and that there are so many more "Dark Forces" working against us now that the Bush/Cheney/Think Tank/Military/Industrial Complex is at it's PINNACLE...due to us Dems and Activists not being able to even make a dent in their armor ...no matter what we threw at them! :-(

22. Does anyone else remember |
|
Brett Kimberland, or something similar to this name who wanted to give a TV interview against Dan Quayle when he was running as Poppy's VP.He wanted to tell the public that he was Quayle's drug connection in the early days. Already in jail he was whisked away to solitary until after the election. After the election which Poppy/Quayle won Kimberland was afraid to say anything about squeaky clean Quayle and gave no more interviews, finished his sentence and quietly disappeared. Kimberland wasn't lieing as it was well known in certain circles in Indy that Quayle dabbled in drugs. Too, like Bush Quayle went to NG duty during Viet Nam and rarely turned up for duty. It seems that this is the way politics work and the Obamaites will cut off any and all talk against BO because they want him to be the nominee. Talk about dark forces, it would seem they have been around for some time, only this time, for the first time, they seem to be helping BO. I bet Rezko keeps his mouth shut and BOs name won't be mentioned.

29. Don't remember "Kimberland" specifically...but so much has been covered up |
|
that a "deep Google" would probably reveal what he was about. So many have been "covered up" and it still goes on with our Congress that seems "hell bent" to cover up any connection of Bush/Cheney will evil deeds going back way beyond Bush I... so it wouldn't surprise me what you say.
I don't know what Obama will do...but don't have "High Hopes" for "Hope for Change" having heard tht back to the 70's with EVERY DEM CANDIDATE!
Even Clinton was the "Man from HOPE!" (then it was Arkansas)...

out laughing, while a dish takes off with a spoon? What if all that happens, too?
Because all those "reasons" you listed for why Hillary should "stay in until the very end" are as likely to occur as the ones I just did.
But, hey diddle diddle: knock yourself out grasping at those straws.

|
It seems to me like we're better off if the repubs don't have one target until as late in the game as possible. We will eventually have a candidate. Lets give the process a chance to work.

27. The convention is at the end of August. Even pledged delegates can change their vote, |
|
and if a major scandal were to occur the presumptive candidate would be convinced to step aside. It's not an issue. Besides, you can say the same thing about every candidate in every election, so we would never stop a campaign until the convention.
btw, "cocaine" is not a scandal-in-waiting. He's already admitted to using it. And according to the NYT, he might even have exaggerated how much he used it.
