Did Hillary try to score points for voting for the Bankruptcy Bill??? |
|
Last night, she was talking about, "I voted for a bill that would cap credit card interest at 30% and Barack didn't" Then Obama said he didn't like that whole bill. What was that? Was it the bankruptcy bill they were talking about?

1. If she was talking about the most recent bankruptcy bill, |
|
it totally protects creditors, and if you go into bankruptcy court now, the so-called court-appointed "advocate" and trustee is put in the position of protecting them, not you. Attorneys have been ill-informed and can't give reliable advice either. If you have a house, watch out, the banks are totally covered, coming and going.
This is one of the reasons I can't vote for Hillary. There she went again, "going along" with the Republicans on a bill that turned protection for average people on its head.

2. There are two bills discussed in this exchange |
|
There is the 2005 bankruptcy bill that both voted against in the final vote. What HRC is speaking of is an amendment to that bill. Many Senators voted against that provision stating that it could lead to the cap becoming the norm or that it could be used to challenge state provisions that have lower caps. There is disagreement on whether that could happen. (That amendment passed handily and would have passed easily even without the scattering of votes, like Obama's, that were concerned about possible unintended consequences. The bill has been in effect now, but I don't know if this happened.)
There is also the 2001 bankruptcy bill that was similar that HRC voted for. With the shift of the majority from Republican to Democratic with Jeffords shift and 911, the House and Senate never passed a consolidated bill from the bills passed in each chamber. Therefore it did not become law.
So both are accurate - this shows how little HRC has to attack Obama on. This is very tricky ground for her, because she had to know that her 2001 vote for the bill itself was at least as bad.
