when BO said he did not hold hearings in the oversight subcommittee that he chairs (which by the way is supposed to hold president Bush accountable for what he is doing in Iraq) BO said that the reason he had not done so was/is that he has been campaigning to be president of the u.s.a.
i was perplexed by his answer for i wondered was BO hiding one more time behind whatever excuse to excuse his lack of responsibility in carrying out that part of his job.
there is a spanish program here in south florida called CALANDO FUERTE. it is a variety show kidn of program which in some ways also tries to copy those shows which hold singing/dancing competitions.
Not long ago one of the couples involved in the dance competition told the panel (and the audience) that they had been too busy and tired to prepare a special dance number for the competition for that particular night and that they were just going to enjoy themselves dancing a number which was easy for them to dance.
the panel scolded them quite harshly and stated that a competition is a serious affair ... not something to be taken lightly and not something to come to to just have a good time in. they received a very low score for their performance that night and were eliminated from the competition.
BO's answer to why he has held no hearings on the oversight committee that he shares on Afghanistan reminds me of this couple ... as if he has taken somewhat lightly his job in the sub-committee meant to hold Bush accountable on the Iraq/Afghanistan fronts. the media seems to have given him a pass on this account and so, it seems, has the american public.
the other instance in which i wondered if BO was once again hiding behind hillary's pant-suits came with the Medeved question. Timmy Russert says he asked the question to no specific candidate. He just threw it out there. In the awkward silence before an answer was given, BO had the chance to jump at it and answer it. Instead, he stared at Hillary, who in turn gave her answer, paving the way for BO to give an answer which began with "Hillary is perfectly clear on that ..." seems to me BO did not know the answer to the homework, and only after hearing it from Hillary was he able to come up with a repetition of the answer.
shame on you BO!
and, why is it that every detail BO gave last night on his health care plan and jobs creation plan sounded o, so much like a parroting of hillary's plans with some tweaking here and there.
it seems to me BO's declared pragmatism is one of run for office, use the voice of others to get you there.

BO did not do his job. he seems to coast while others do the job. he showed this in the medeved question and he has also shown it in having no hearings on the oversight committee he chairs ... after all, all he talks about is how he did not vote for the war ... why, then, is he not doing something to oversee how GWB allocates the money given to him ... money that has to do with iraq, pahkistahn and afghanistahn.

4. Man, all that work and you don't even know Obama does not chair over Afghanistan |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-27-08 08:43 PM by Melinda
But rather, Senator Obama chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee's Subcommittee on European Affairs.
The responsibility for Iraq and the middle east in general is not his, although as chairman of EU affairs, he has broad authority and can conduct oversight if he chooses. Still, not his responsibility.
Good grief.

SENATE FOREIGN RELATIONS COMMITTE which menas that BO could have been having hearings to hold Bush's feet to the fire, however, for a man who could OVERSEE through his broad authority how bush is conducting his affairs and how he is spending the money allocated to Afghanistan ... (iraq and pakistan) ... for a man who boasts about how he did not vote to authorize the war (actually the occupation and invasion of iraq) he has done absolutely nothing to step on Bush's corn ... now i think that speaks significantly about who BO is... and as hillary well put it BO is All Hat No Cattle!

19. yes he has ... he has oversight over how the money bush requests is being allocated. |

for a man who likes to blow hot smoke out of his mouth on how he did not vote for the war (when he had no vote) and could have done something to step on bush's corn and he did not,... i have to say the man is pretty pathetic ... all hat no cattle!

21. reality check on facts ... by the way (after i first posted a reply to your post) |
|
BO chairs an important subcommittee on THE SENATE FOREIGN RELATIONS COMMITTEE which gave him the right to hold hearings to figure out what Bush is doing (or not) and what he could to to step on Bush's corn, or as Paul Begala put it to Wolf Blitzer in the Situation Room last night,
"The war in Afghanistan is not going as well as it should be, principally because the Bush administration doesn't know what the heck they're doing. Oversight means these hearings that Barack should have been holding means holding the Bush administration's feet to the fire. Do we have enough troops in Afghanistan? No. Do we have enough intelligence assets? No. Do we have the right strategy to roll back the Taliban? No."
Top o the morning to you, again, cali.

although i stood corrected on BO's subcomittee ... a further fact check tells that, BO, holds and important oversite position on the SENATE FOREIGN RELATIONS COMMITTEE which could have positioned him to do hearings to figure out "what to do with NATO over AFGHANISTAN" ... and that all hat no cattle has done absolutely nothing ... now for a man who likes to blow smoke out of his ears about how he did not vote to authorize bush to go into iraq ... it is pretty pathetic that he has done nothing to hold bush's feet to the fire.
