1. Please explain a "no" vote |
|
I have absolutely no understanding why anyone would think this is a bad idea.

2. Be wary of this one - it would probably backfire in a big way. Some of... |
|
Kerry's surragates need to talk it to death in a horrified and/or in a sarcastic way. But Kerry himself has to be "above the fray".

4. I agree with this approach |

That way Kerry looks more presidential, while his aides and surrogates portray the Yale cheerleader as the buffoon he is.

I envision a somber shot of a flag-draped coffin being off-loaded at Dover AFB. Cut to * and his comedy routine. Voiceover: They died because they believed him. Anyone else think that's funny?

However, I'd have no objection to ACT or Media Fund or Moveon.org (most likely Moveon.org) running that ad.

9. Bu$h thinks war is fun |
|
How can America expect a person who's never been to war to understand the seriousness of war? While Kerry was dodge bullets, Bu$h was dodging the National Guard! Time for the White House to put someone in there who's serious about leadership. What's funny is how can Bu$h have time to play around when our economy suffers, the elderly suffer, children suffer, families are stressed, personal debt is rampant, savings are depleted because unemployment has made families reach into their savings to make ends meet, and Bu$h wants to laugh about it all? Make a mockery of America? He's out of touch, thinking Mars, thinking steroids are the big issues of the day...what a joke! I'm laughing so hard I can hardly stand here in the unemployment line!

10. Yes, with his trifecta jokes included as well |
|
It goes to his character.
And it shows him as he really is.
I think ads using his own words (and other ads using the other criminals in their own words as well) would be especially damaging, probably more so than anything we could put in an ad at this point.
I think a lot of bush supporters are being forced to take a second look at their hero, and the time is ripe to help them get a good look. This is a golden opportunity to re-define bush to part of his base. We should make sure they get a big dose of the moron.

23. I agree, and we should do it |
|
Absolutely.. do an ad that shows the date of his trifecta speech and reminds people of how many days it was after 9/11, play the clip... do a clip showing Bush smiling and put up text when we bombed Iraq and he pumped his fist and said "that feels good!"... Show the clip where he's wearing the flight suit and has the Mission Accomplished banner up (put the dates and sources on all of these), then end it with the clip of the joke (with the date)..
End it with, "President Bush our lives are not a joke" and end it with his snooty laugh.
Why can't a DU make this video and we can all raise money for ad airplay ourselves as a Democratic Underground ad?
There's got to be a way to do it.. I mean why force Kerry to make a statement like that... one that obviously has to be made but one that comes off as unpresidential..
That should be our jobs as citizens.

i don't think it should be used in a tv ad by kerry himself. but kerry can talk about it and condemn bush for it.

13. No - I think he would equally be exploiting the victims of this war |
|
Showing Bush's joke would be in bad taste I believe, expecially to fringe voters who we are trying to get not sway away. I think it would be great of him to allude to it and not specfically say it in interviews and debates but a commercial highlighting paid by John Kerry should not be done. Perhaps one could be done by MoveOn but I think it would be a mis step if it were paid for and approved by John Kerry.

15. Yes but the ad should be put on and paid for by smoeone else |
|
One of Bush's strengths is that people see him as a nice guy.
An ad showing clips of this WMD joke along with him calling that Times reporter an A-hole and joking about executing that Born Again woman back when he was governor of Texas--I think her name was Carla Faye Baker--might help dispell that impression.

17. No I think Kerry has more respect for soldiers |
|
and their families and won't do that. What Bush* did on his own speaks volumes and it's not going to bring any undecided voters to Kerry's side by using it as a campaign commercial. It will only further hurt our soldiers and their families it's not worth it!
The 'Bush* Joke' stands on it's own as disgraceful and dishonorable let him tote this one. I'm also not saying it shouldn't be addressed just don't do it in a campaign commercial. Kerry when questioned has the umpph! to rise to the top like cream on this one.

18. I say "no" and here's why. |
|
Edited on Fri Mar-26-04 10:08 AM by Finnfan
Bush has been so exposed as a lying, incompetent jerk, that I believe that the supporters he has left are too partisan to change their minds. So this election comes down to this: Which parties' members are more likely to stay home on election day?
If we let Bush continue to self-implode, I think his base will be more likely to stay home. If they see him as being attacked be "the left", they will be more likely to hit the polls.
Kerry doesn't need to make Bush look bad. Bush is doing fine with that on his own. Kerry needs to give Democratic voters a powerful, positive reason to get off their fannies in November. If he stays above the fray, I think he'll do it.

This election is too Goddamned important to worry about keeping our hands clean. Kerry should use it, and use it, and use it again. MoveOn HAD a commercial ready to go for the Super Bowl. They said no. Who's to say OTHER networks and CBS included would reject it for some ridiculous reason or not? Kerry's gotta do it.
Later.
