Question Regarding Possible Lawsuit In Texas
Edited on Sat Mar-01-08 09:34 PM by KLee
Do you think it is fair for Hillary to challenge the rules if she loses, when her husband President Bill Clinton, won under that same Texas Caucus system in 1992 and 1996?

If the rules were so awful, why didn't he sue? Is it because he won? Why is it okay to sue when things don't go your way, but if you win you don't care about rules just as long as you won.

LAREDO, Texas: Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign has raised the possibility of a challenge to Texas' primary and caucus rules just days before the contest, drawing a warning against legal action from the state's Democratic Party.

Top strategists for Democratic rival Barack Obama said Friday they supported the party's action, suggesting the Clinton campaign was trying to block the reporting of caucus results.

Aides to Clinton said earlier this week they were alarmed at the lack of clarity about many of the caucus rules and expressed their concerns on a conference call with staff for rival Barack Obama and state party officials. Texas has a two-step voting process to choose delegates to the party's national nominating convention this summer, with a primary and then caucuses shortly after the polls close.

Specifically, Clinton aides questioned a provision allowing caucus attendees to vote to move the location if they choose to do so, and whether people who had cast so-called "provisional ballots" in the primary would have their votes counted in the caucus. "Provisional ballots" are cast when election workers have questions about whether someone is properly registered to vote in a particular precinct.

They also expressed concern about the automated phone system precinct chairs would use to call in the results of each caucus, saying the party had not yet trained anyone to use the system properly.

The letter also noted that many of Clinton's senior campaign advisers in Texas had helped to develop the rules governing the state's caucus system. A Texas party official also noted that former President Bill Clinton won the state's caucuses in 1992 and 1996 following the same rules.

1. I'll guarantee you, 100%, that the caucuses will go forward
No judge in Texas would issue a writ suspending them.

Now, she may challenge them down the line. But looking at the US Supreme Court's categorical refusal to get involved with primaries over time, the chances are zero for a successful challenge.

Having said all that, there will be some snafu's Tuesday niht -- I'll guarantee that too. But, nothing dramatic will result.

2. I agree....
It's not going anywhere, but to suggest you would sue pending results, when your husband didn't after he won sounds lame to me, for lack of a better word.
