Reformer: Trial Will Reveal 'Cesspool' of Obama's Allies

For the rest go here:http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=4365942&page=1

"We have a sick political culture," said Jay Stewart, the executive director of the Chicago Better Government Association, "and that's the environment that Barack Obama came from."

Stewart says he does not understand why Obama has lectured others about corruption in Washington and Kenya but "been noticeably silent on the issue of corruption here in his home state, including at this point, mostly Democratic politicians."

There was no immediate comment from the Obama campaign.

The trial Monday involves federal charges of bribery and extortion against Tony Rezko, a real estate developer who became known in Illinois politics as a behind-the-scenes operator and fixer.

While Obama is not considered a target of the Rezko investigation, Stewart says it will shed light on a man who was pivotal to Obama's political career.

"This wasn't just some guy who wrote a check once for Barack Obama, it's someone who was an early supporter and had a personal relationship with Sen. Obama for quite some time," Stewart said.

With the corruption trial of one of Sen. Barack Obama's longtime friends and supporters set to begin Monday in Chicago, Ill., reform watchdogs say it will reveal the "cesspool" of Illinois politics in which Obama came of age and has said little about in his campaign for president.

Fitz has already looked at him, he's not implicated or even on the witness list. This is a problem for our governor.

Loser.

40. Reading many articles about the upcoming trial..
it has been reported that there is
no proof that Obama did favors for
Rezko but, that there is substantial
evidence to prove that Rezko did favors
for Obama. Whether these favors are
real and whether they were outside the
bounds of the law is something we will
have to wait until the trial to see.

My opinion of both Hillary and Bill was pretty good before she ran for president.

I wish I could still hold them in high regard- but 'words are easy'- Their tactics speak a much different story about their character-

24. So I suppose
when Obama denounces Chicago it will satisfy the reform minded folk? If this is about guilt by association we might as well go ahead and nuke Illinois. Unless Obama is tied to a criminal act or anything remotely like McCain's whorish servitude to lobbyists I would like to stop hearing the idiot parrot words Rezco and Muslim and black every time someone is "disturbed" about his candidacy. The list of presidents hating sordid connections from backers who went down BECAUSE their guy became president or did not profit from the association cannot be quite compared to the flood of looters accompanying the GOP into the Treasury. Joseph Kennedy seemingly had a mob alliance to help JFK. Truman had some corrupt local backing. Various friends and allies went down in the Carter and Clinton presidencies.

The simple cure for most of that would be to clean the money element as much as possible out of politics.
Whatever candidate you support, a major plank and condition would be precisely that reform- as Sen. Biden
emphasizes, at the very nexus of all election woes. So instead of piously jumping in the very next breath from (Scumbag Name) to (Candidate) let's in the very next breath advocate foremost for campaign finance reform.

If you have more than a dozen big financial backers in your rise you probably have at least one crook or scumbag in the lot. The game attracts and breeds them.

30. But, he doesn't have to be implicated
I doubt seriously that he has done anything wrong or unethical but it is about perception. In the political arena, if someone is preceived to have done something wrong or unethical, that is just as bad as having actually done something wrong or unethical. It is about what the MSM can make people percieve, not what they can make people believe. And if you don't think that half of the American people are a bunch of gulliable boneheads, ask yourself how John Kerry got beat.

31. This one's from today's Chicago Tribune
Prosecutors allege that Rezko misused the power he gained from his prowess as a fundraiser for Gov. Rod Blagojevich, scheming to extort kickbacks from firms seeking state business or regulatory approval. But Rezko's lawyers will attack the credibility of Stuart Levine, the government's key witness, questioning his memory of events because of his alleged heavy use of cocaine, crystal meth and other illegal drugs.

"That clearly is the battle line they want to draw," said Zachary Fardon, a former assistant U.S. attorney who was part of the prosecution team that convicted former Gov. George Ryan in 2006. "The defense wants it to be all about Stuart Levine."

Levine, who sat on two influential state boards, pleaded guilty to scheming with Rezko to extort almost $6 million from firms seeking to invest state pension funds and a hospital seeking approval of expansion plans.

-snip

The defense is expected to make much of the fact that Rezko appears on the fringe of the alleged fixes, dealing mostly with only Levine. And while federal investigators secretly tape-recorded hundreds of Levine's telephone conversations, only a few involved Rezko, and those were innocuous, the defense will argue.

-snip

In addition to maintaining an alleged $25,000-a-month drug habit, Levine, a longtime Republican fundraiser, schemed to steal money on other boards on which he served, including at least one charity, and only agreed to cooperate when he faced what amounted to a life sentence if he was convicted, the defense says.

Ronald Safer, a former federal prosecutor who represents a client in another criminal case in which Levine is cooperating, called the government's star witness "a walking crime wave."

I know what the fuck you are doing. You are loading up whatever you can into a anti-hope, anti-support preverbial shotgun and trying to aim it at the general population hoping that some of the pieces of shit will cause this election to go all the way to the convention. Where whoever wins will be swiftly defeated by the Republicans who have plenty of other preverbial shotguns.

You arent going to pull this swiftboating shit and think it will stick with me. If you do a little research you will find out why I am more than experienced with this kind of shit.

Keep in mind I was a republican supporter in 2004... I know this bullshit you are trying to pull. It WILL NOT work IT WILL NOT gain you any friends. IT IS BAD for the UNITED STATES.
