Question about the Texas primary/caucuses.
Edited on Mon Mar-03-08 11:20 PM by Drunken Irishman
Do the caucus results go to the overall results, or are they seperate?

2. Texas, sorry.

Do they take the primary results and the caucus results as seperate, or do they add them together?

Like, let's say Obama loses the primary 51-49 and wins the caucus 55-45, does he then win Texas by 8?

3. Separate contest, something like 1/3 of delegates apportioned by caucus and 2/3 by primary

4. If you're talking about Texas,
the primary voting assigns 2/3 of the delegates. The caucuses--or conventions, as they're actually called--assign the other 1/3.

The voting results should be known tomorrow night. The outcome of the conventions won't be known for several weeks--it's a many-tiered system, with delegates from precinct conventions going to county conventions, delegates from county conventions to district conventions and on up. The process will conclude, if I remember correctly, some time in May.

7. Actually, I think the party invested $ in order to provide some preliminary caucus results tomorrow.
...

"The law requires the caucus results to be reported within three days, but the intense interest in the results prompted the Texas Democratic Party to invest $60,000 in a voluntary reporting system so that the media and public would have an idea about how the caucus tallies were breaking," Root wrote on Saturday. "Obama officials see no problem with it. But Mauro said the system would produce 'flimsy, half-baked results.'"

In fact, what the fight over legal action really indicates is that, despite projections from both campaigns that Tuesday's vote could end the battle between Obama and Clinton, neither campaign is writing concession speeches on the eve of the Texas primary.

6. A person who votes in the Dem primary can then attend the caucus on the eve of 3/4
The primary has a certain amount of delegates that are awarded and then the caucuses have a certain amount that are awarded.

It's not a combined deal. More delegates are apportioned from the primary. I think about a third of the delegates are awarded from the caucuses.
