Has Obama Made Any Statements Regarding Patrick Fitzgerald's Future? |
|
Edited on Tue Mar-04-08 12:07 AM by tritsofme
As US Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, Mr. Fitzgerald has really caused a lot of headaches for Obama's old pals in Chicago politics.
Fitzgerald, more than anyone else in the past 25 years or so is really sticking it to the corrupt Daley Machine, and lots of people are not happy about it.
Lots of people around here would like to make sure Fitzgerald exits the door with Bush so they can get back to business as usual.
Has Obama addressed the issue of retaining Patrick Fitzgerald as US Attorney, or even discussed appointing someone completely independent of the very political machine that spawned his own career?
Or is it wink wink, nod nod, the way things are in the city that works?

Feisty U.S. attorney's job safe Friday, July 29, 2005
CHICAGO SUN-TIMES BY LYNN SWEET Sun-Times Washington Bureau Chief
WASHINGTON -- It's his call.
Though his term is up this fall, U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald, the aggressive prosecutor who is investigating Mayor Daley's City Hall, possible illegal White House leaks and who has a former Illinois governor awaiting a corruption trial, is in no danger of losing his job.
Fitzgerald's original four-year term expires in a few months, and former Sen. Peter Fitzgerald (R-Ill.), who engineered his appointment (they are not related), is raising a concern the Chicago-based career prosecutor may be pressured out.
snip
Illinois Democratic Senators Dick Durbin and Barack Obama have been on record since January -- before the White House and City Hall probes heated up -- as wanting Patrick Fitzgerald to stay.

Here's an article from Obama's senate website page mentioning the fact that Fitzgerald is a thorn in the side of the Daley political machine in Chicago - and confirming Obama's desire for him to keep doing it.

10. Dub, Abu-Gonzo and Rove... |
|
Were the only ones getting rid of U.S. Attorneys because of their investigations of corruption, the last time I looked.
Barrack Obama certainly does not belong anywhere NEAR that category!
One thing of which I'm certain: there won't be any "pre-emptive pardons" of Dub, Cheney, Rove or Gonzo if Obama takes the reins on January 20 of 2009. Frankly, I'm not nearly as sure about that as far as the other two major candidates are concerned.:eyes:

and appoint weak USAs to the Northern District of Illinois.
Obama just happens to have much closer ties, that may present a conflict of interest.

|
took apart the republicans and now he`s working on that useless governor in springfield. i doubt he`ll get to daley anytime soon but who knows he just may do that to. the best thing fitzgerald ever did in his senate term was to bring fitzgerald to illinois.
obama is`t going to get rid of fitzgerald

Fitzgerald is doing an amazing job taking on the wholesale corruption that is politics in Illinois.
But if he went away, many of Obama's oldest supporters would be very happy.

He's a Republican, and most new President's put their own people in as US attorney's.
Could Obama keep him on, sure. But it's no big conspiracy if he doesn't.
