A Real Danger from a Prolonged Primary. -- Burn Out and Apathy |
|
One of the essential elements of a successful campaign is enthusiasm. We've had a lot of that, but I think we may in danger of squandering it. And, perhaps give McCain the victory by default.
I'm beginning to understand how the soldiers in World War One must have felt, during the endless period where they were dug in, and both sides kept firing at each otehr but neither one making any progress.
If this prolong Primary of Attrition keeps on for much longer, there is a danger that come time for the General Election Campaign most people may get so burned out by it all that many people will just tune it all out.
In order for a really fired up general election, there needs to be a respite. Especially this year, when the campaigns actually started immediately after the 06 Election.
If this crap continues much longer, Democrats may get so sick of it that by the convention they may say "I'm sick of both of them. A pox on both their houses. The hell with it. Just pick someone already."
And this could carry over to the General. If the mutual animosity between supporters of the candidates continues to build, the supporters of the loser may just decided to sit it out.
And those all important swing voters may decide that with all of the chaos and slimeballs thrown among Democrats to go with McCain just because they have lost faith in Democrats and they have gotten sick of the two prospective nominees.
So I offer up a simple prayer regarding the primaries. "Please God. Just End it soon."

2. My intuition says this will be a moot point b/c she'll have so much pressure |
|
from party insiders to concede, for the sake of the party.
I think it's gonna be fairly evident soon enough.

Probably should have been:

I still kinda like you.

Her newfound cause of allowing the whole country to vote is simply transparent opportunism.

5. I think either camp could lose voters |
|
My thought is that Democratic chances could be hurt by a long campaign because of estrangement and burn out, no matter which nominee wins.

8. I get the same feeling. I think if Clinton runs we will have McCain |
|
I do think Obama has made the young people and just people come out. But I also think they will see it not to bad to have an old, 4 year President, in place of a turn with the endless Bush/Clinton thing. I just get this feeling she is the wrong person for the time we are in. I think things go like that. It is not always your work you put in but a right time comes along and I do not think Clinton is it.

14. It is the right time for Hillary. She is an understanding woman |
|
who has spent her life working for the less fortunate and needy women and children. She didn't come from a wealthy family she had to work to put herself thru law school. She knows what hard work is, and she's a hard worker, she's no quitter.

13. I'm eyeing that rose-colored bubble I've lived in the past few years. |

Obama's message of a new way in Washington made me peek my head out of my self-imposed bubble. But I see it's still as ugly and divisive as it's always been.

I knew then that elections are add's and hype and lies and a lot of money spent to propell lies into some false sense of reality and security .
None of this exists , we are living a lie .

30. Inter-party campaigns are enthusiasm killers if they go on too long |
|
It's one thing to be part of a reasonable unified effort to defeat the GOP.
It's quite another to experience a never-ending war of attrition in which your own allies are shooting at each other.

There is a real danger that the black voters might sit out the next election if they feel that Obama is robbed of his rightful win. Also, many of the new voters have come out to vote because of Barack Obama - not for Hillary or the Democratic Party. They, unlike many here, will feel no obligation at all to vote "Democratic" in the next election. We could very well end up with President McCain. It is a very real possibility.
