Something we can agree on??? |
|
I've had two canvassers come to my door so far today. I'm in Columbus, OH and it is NASTY out -- cold, freezing rain that hasn't let up all day.
I was really active in 2004 and 2006 (and i'm sure i'll get sucked back in any minute, LOL)... so i just want to send out a big
THANK YOU!!!
to all those out pounding the pavement to get out the vote. I KNOW how much work it is, especially in this weather, so to all of you :yourock:  :loveya:
Disclaimer -- i will not be getting involved in any flamewars here! I want to see BIG NUMBERS voting for our Dems regardless of my personal preference for one versus the other.
When it comes down to it, in November i will be voting for the person with this by their name: D

15. Pounding the Pavement is a Tough Job |

They have a lot more guts than I do;there's no way I'd expose myself to possible derision. You can bet those canvassers face a lot of "rejection and denunciation"! You guys deserve drinks on the house.

You walk up to the house with absolutely no idea what's coming your way... unless there's a friendly yard sign!

25. I had one come by my house back in '04 |
|
and I invited her in to use the bathroom, get a drink, whatever because I knew she had to have been out in the FL sun for gods only know how long. And that ain't the most pleasant place to be.
I don't remember what state she said she was from, but she travelled quite a ways to try and make a difference in a swing state. Gotta respect that kind of willingness and effort.

27. She seemed a little nervous, but she really had to go to the bathroom. :P |
|
Probably helped that I was a fellow dem and all I asked from her was for the little voter info sheet so I knew where to go vote. :)

23. I've been thinking about all you guys in Ohio since I woke up this morning. |
|
I always try to catch the national weather -- not just the forecast for here in Tulsa or Oklahoma. Makes me feel more connected to all my friends in many states and sympathize with those experiencing bad weather of all kinds.
Knowing since two days ago that Ohio was going to be hit with a nasty bout of weather today, I've been concerned for all of you there.
And freezing rain is just about the worst of all possible kinds of inclement weather, too! I know, because we get that stuff way too much here. You may have heard about this area's catastrophic ice storm of December 2007, in fact, when well over half a million customers (not people, but households and businesses!) were without power in the freezing cold for a long time -- some for as long as eight or nine days! So many trees were destroyed by the storm, this area will never look the same, and of course the falling branches and power lines damaged homes and cars too. The city is still sending piggybacked huge trucks around town to pick up the piles of limbs and branches and cut-up trees at the curbs over three months later, and they won't be finished for another month or two yet!
Just to let you know -- I understand how enormous the impact of such awful weather can be, and I hope you don't have it THAT bad, for sure.
So bundle up, all of you, and keep yourselves SAFE. And congratulations, especially to the campaign/election workers, on your courage and endurance for braving it all in order to further our democratic process! It isn't always easy, that's for sure!
**SALUTE!**

24. What a wonderful post |
|
I hope your area gets cleaned up and mended soon!
Things aren't THAT bad here, thank goodness! There is supposed to be a lot of flooding, though. I am especially keeping my fingers crossed for some regions in NW Ohio that have been slammed with flooding multiple times already in the last year. :(
Makes it all the more inspiring to see the canvassers out, and the people waiting in line at the polls!
