1. Not really. He wants independents to vote so that would throw the door open to |
|
Repugs to vote for Obama, as they HAVE been doing. If he wanted her to win he would seat the delegates. Dean despises Clinton and has been pushing Obama since day one.

9. Do you have a link to that? He said rules that were on the table originally. |
|
Florida has always been closed. I am surprised you would attack his character like that.

2. It's not clear to me that Hillary would win those states again because |
|
a) Obama's name wasn't on the ballot in one of them and would be in a do over and b) neither candidate campaigned in those states but obviously would in a do over. The two do overs would then be different, and the candidates would be able to compete more effectively.
Right now, I honestly think that do overs are the way to go. Iknow it's a bad situation but we've got to get over with it and get on with the GE...

4. It's really the only fair solution |

My gut feeling is that Clinton would take Florida and Obama would take Michigan.

7. I Think it Evidently Clear That He is Party Chairman |

and has to choose between disenfranchising millions of Democrats who had nothing to do with the primary date and giving Clinton an unfair advantage by accepting the irregular existing results.
If I had to guess, I would imagine that Dean would much prefer Obama. At this point, the Clintons are the leaders of DC insiders, while Dean is the leading edge of the faction based in state parties. As a relative outsider, Obama would be a more natual political ally for Dean, and allow the state party faction to complete its much needed takeover of the whole Democratic structure.
Dean's played it very straight so far and I admire him for that. Allowing the existing results is unimaginable, but proceeding without FL and MI is a last resort.

11. I see nothing of the kind; I see lily-livered backing down to bellyaching insurrectionists |

I feel for the innocent voters in these states, but they've been screwed by their opportunistic, selfish, childish and reckless politicians into this mess. Dean had done the right thing by reining in rebelliousness and holding people to their words of honor, but now he's throwing it all away.
I certainly DO NOT see this as an attempt to sway it toward Hillary; I see it as addle-headed conciliation. On the face of it, though, it does look like it'll benefit her a bit more: Clinton stands a better chance in Florida due to the Hispanic, Jewish, old and racist voters, and Obama stands a better chance in Michigan due to a higher-than-national-average black population and the devastation of the economy, which will largely be blamed on NAFTA. The problem is that Florida's population is about twice that of Michigan's.
Then again, it's not so simple: Florida's black population is 15.8%, which is greater than Michigan's 14 or so; both being higher than the national average.
Now that Pandora's Box has been opened, do Obama or his people seriously want to keep these people from getting a vote that counts? That'd be a tactical disaster, akin to Gore choosing to only contest four counties.
I wish Dean had stuck to his guns; the politicians in these states were selfish assholes the way they defied the rules, and if some line isn't held, anarchy will reign, and when that's the case, it only BENEFITS THE PEOPLE WITH THE MOST MONEY. That does not bode well for the future of the public forum of ideas.
