So, if Congress decides to hold a "practice election" in October... |
|
...and tells everyone over and over again that the vote doesn't count, that it won't mean anything, that it might as well be on Monopoly money, that it won't decide who wins any position whatsoever - THEN, two weeks later, turns around and says, "Actually, forget November, I think we'll just use the October numbers to decide everything..."
You'd be completely fine with that, right?

1. You seem to think DNC rules |
|
carry the same weight as the constitution. How silly.

3. If you can't follow the rules maybe it's time to change parties. Our DNC delegates from all 50 |
|
states set the rules.
Don't like 'em? Tough.

5. Were you part of the republican mob in Florida in 2000? |
|
They just wanted the rules followed! Want to finish counting your votes?! No way! Rules are rules! Want to recount the entire state? No can do! Rules are rules!

10. You think our elected DNC are a mob of Repos? Like I said, it might be time for you to move on |

That's about as bizarre of a statement as I've ever seen you make.
If you don't like the rules of our party you are welcome to go elsewhere.

11. So, you would have been cool with Obama using that exact same argument... |
|
...to campaign vigorously in Florida, yes? After all, following rules would just make him part of the Republican mob that put Bush into office, correct?

he DID campaign in Florida, in violation of the pledge. But I didn't get too upset about it.

4. What? I think you misunderstand me. |
|
I'm not making any sort of claim about what rules should be enforced and what shouldn't. Too much legalese. I'm merely asking if you would be fine with the situation I described in the OP.

since the law sets the date of presidential elections, your scenario is stupid.

I'm gonna guess that you're smart enough to know that you're purposely avoiding the point of my post. But, if it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy, you can replace "Congress decides" with "passes a Constitutional amendment."
Yes, yes, I know, the states have to then vote on it themselves. Concoct whatever crazy hypothetical scenario you wish in which every state legislature, on a crazy, Red Bull-induced caffeine rush, decides to pass the amendment the same night that it's passed by Congress. Do whatever your legalistic heart desires to make every all hunky-dory on the technicality side, so you can address, you know, the point of the thread.

Apparently I should have made it more technically accurate, but, hell, I think it serves its purpose pretty well.

I'll give this thing at least one good bump to try to eek out a few more opinions about this scenario. No one sees the similarities?

12. It is a good analogy. Here are a few others... |
|
1) With one or two games left in the regular season, the NFL suddenly decides that all pre-season games will now be counted as regular season games.
2) You get a bunch of friends together for a no-money poker tournament. You hand out chips at the door, and reiterate to everyone that the tournament is just for fun. As the tournament is ending, you suddenly announce that everyone is actually liable for their losses, and the winners will get the real money.

13. Yup. The analogies could go on and on. |
|
I chose this one because, as has been so clearly demonstrated in this thread, there are certain people who will nitpick at parts of the analogy that have absolutely nothing to do with the point, just to distract everyone from that point. If, however, you are not a massive tool, virtually any sports-related analogy would also work, because most sports have exhibition games of some sort.
