A testimony to Obama's greater appeal.
I plan to attend a function called Empower Our Communities being held by a life long Republican Police Sgt. in Raleigh North Carolina. He is planning to have Obama there. It's an iniative to help inner city kids stay off drugs and out of trouble. He thinks Obama is best person to heal our country and inspire the youth and wants to do everything he can to help Obama win. I'm sure some nasty replies will come, but Obama does hit on something I find important besides the all he's got is a speech smear.

1. No nasty reply here.....
I find it refreshing that Obama connects with young people like no other candidate since Kennedy. I think he'll be invaluable to today's youth, and old folks like myself as well.

3. I find it disheartening that at this time
when people have just had enough of bad uninspiring politics and divisiveness, the DLC has decided it wants to have the ultimate turf war for control of the democratic party this election. People laugh at hope with zeal and cynicism, but I have had a glimmer of it recently. I hope it isn't a candle in the wind.

5. Yeah they mocked "all that peace and love crap".
What kind of world do they want to live in? Peace be with you.

11. If anyone had told me in the 90's when I was defending the
Clintons from all the rightwing crap that was flung at them, that they would turn out to be exactly what they were accused of being, I would have laughed in their faces. I don't know what stage of grief I'm in right now, but I'm so hurt.

I believe the struggle for the soul of the party lies with Obama and the movement around him, if the DLC is to be neutralized, and perhaps marginalized forever.

13. If anyone had told me in the 90's (when I already knew, and had known for years
that the Clintons were deeply flawed and disappointing) that Hillary would be attacked in the same unfair, vicious, personal way by democrats as she was then (and still is) by the r/w then I would have been as horrified then as I am now.

(If you can follow that!)

2. Not here either. How many of you has read his book
The Audacity of Hope? You get a good sense of where he's coming from.

The problem is I have a lot of new ones lately, so I rotate.

7. This is why a lot of us want
Obama for Prez..'cause we could see that in him from what he's put forth so far in his life. Thanks so much for reporting this, mmonk.

10. Yes, it is the youth that have to be fired up to deal with the problems ahead. Obam is so right.

16. I guess because you don't run into something like this everyday.
A republican police sgt. supporting Obama and throwing an event for him to attend because he thinks he would be best for healing a country and his city. I can't remember anything like it.

14. Has Obama accepted? It sounds cool, if he's willing.
By the way, the 'all he's got is a speech' criticism was about foreign and military affairs, not his overall record or his overall identification.

It was brought up because, the speech is what Obama offered as a rebuttal to Clinton's claim of more experience. He said his judgment in that speech trumps Clinton's vote, and, I gather, every other credential she's offered in that regard. That's why she's responded that 'all he has is the one speech'.

15. As far as I know.
The numbers of people that are planning to attend is growing fast. I found out by joining the campaign site. It was listed on the Obama site for my state for events. This particular police sgt. is an Obama supporter.
