Why we shouldn't vote based on who is polling the best against McCain |
|
In nominating either a woman or an African-American, we are really putting a lot of faith in the American people.
We're still a sexist and racist society, and I have to say I wonder how much of people's opinions even on DU are based on sexism or racism. Right now we're running a woman against a Black guy, so the racism and sexism factor even within our own party is hard to calculate.
Which would be a bigger handicap in November?
Who can say?
But just because the Black guy or the woman are polling well against the white guy now doesn't mean that's how it's going to be in 8 months.

1. Also, McCain has not been "vetted". |

It is too early for polls to have any meaning.

(I didn't want to put it in the OP, but I think the name recognition factor is still floating around out there BIGTIME.)

The biggest battles lie ahead. As improbable as having both on our ticket seems, it would draw the cultural battle line in unmistakable terms. And I'm not so sure we would like the results, as you imply. :banghead:
