Hillary and the Invaders From Mars
Every time she does or says something that is so mind-boggling, earth-tilting-on-its-axis, I-can't believe-she-is-actually-saying-that, God-awful

millions of separate minds and consciences coalesce and in one universal voice scream

"NO! NO! I can't believe my ears! Only a Republican could say something like that!"

and then we look at each other and weep and hug and surreptitiously search each other for scars at the backs of our necks.

"She used to be one of us!"

2. I would be grateful if it WAS fiction
or just a bad dream.

At least I could wake up or toss the book away.

9. Why don't you get into bed with mommy & daddy?
And work on your homework this weekend, instead of trying to be a smart asshole.

3. I believe each one of us should
dig out and dust off our "Slim Whitman" albums.

By the way, should I start a Slim Whitman appreciation thread?

4. It's only because you are hypersensitive.
I could understand the hyperbole if Hillary had called for the forced conversion of the American Jewry to Shintoism, or to ethnically cleanse Idaho of the Basque presence, but the stuff that causes you such anguish is penny-ante tweaking. She makes sure to say a couple of irksome things each day, and the whole political world wets its pants. Then the word processors are fired up, and a thousand more columns and blog entries tagged "Hillary Clinton" are produced.

She's gotten the entire Washington press corps and 3/4s of the blogosphere on a hair-trigger. She's finally hit her stride and has been working it for over a week now.

When she was running a squeaky-clean campaign, she was ignored, except by the perennial Hillary-haters from the Right and Left. Then she shot her mouth off about the plagiarism, and her name was on ten million lips -- again. Hillary, being no fool, realized that she's Nellie to Obama's Laura. And you know that all the boys had hopeless crushes on Nellie. Well-behaved little girls may never get spanked, but they also never have any serious fun. And their names are seldom spoken.

Guess who is now getting the lioness' share of press coverage?

Even on DU GD-P, it's All Day, All Night, All Hillary.

Most people aren't political junkies, though. All they see is the press ganging up on the Clintons the same way they did in the 1990s, and they'll react the same way -- by supporting them.

Supporting Hillary.

Played!

8. Your comments are truly interesting
I think when you say "hypersensitive" you mean what my husband means when he says "But that's inside baseball - i.e. no one else cares. Am I right with that?

But I don't get your Nellie/ Laura comments - oh wait! I just did! Little House on the Prairie? Meaning that "bad girls" get the press and good girls get ignored?

But I have to say, I really appreciate that you made cogent comments, also very insightful, and that while your viewpoint differs from mine, you were able to refrain from calling me "stupid" and made some great points.

11. That's the right take
And I certainly don't think you're stupid. That extended metaphor was a cut above the usual anti-Hillary stuff. I was debating using the word "hypersensitive" but realized that if you read the post, you'd "get it", and if you didn't read the post, it would not have mattered. "Inside baseball" in our context is "inside politics". I'm quite looking forward to the second game of this twi-night double-header (The Mighty Democrat vs. Johnny Temper).

I was a little too old to have the good-boy-loves-bad-girl crush on Nellie, but http://www.hgd.com/alison/">Alison Arngrim is still worthy of a few swoons, and she's certifiably cool, too. (There are some very entertaining pages at her website.) And that chick who played Laura (Melissa something) didn't do too badly for herself, either.

12. That's an interesting and valid metaphor
But would you really want 4 years of Nellie Olsen? Remember it was Laura that earned a lasting place in America's heart.

13. I'm a lifelong Democrat and I haven't heard her say an untrue word yet.
People who disagree with her opinions forget that everybody has an opinion and that hers counts as much or more than anyone else's. But that doesn't make her wrong. In fact, as I said, I haven't heard her say a single patently incorrect thing since the campaign began.

You can try to cite me some if you want, but, believe me, I've seen them all.
