Who are the individuals bashing Wesley Clark?
Edited on Fri Mar-07-08 11:34 PM by brentspeak
Unlike some of the Obama-mites who've embarrassed themselves and the Democratic party by their foul comments concerning Gen. Clark, I actually read the Raw-Rumor story which claimed Clark said Obama "wasn't prepared to be Commander-In-Chief", and guess what?

Clark never said that Obama "wasn't prepared to be Commander-In-Chief". It was simply an sensationalist headline twisting Clark's critical remarks concerning Obama's Iraq War withdrawal plan.

Any 5th-grader with a modicum of fact-checking integrity could have easily determined for them-self the accuracy of the Raw-Tabloid article.

Which says - what? - about those who have lambasted one the Democratic Party's best people (Clark).

1. Wesley Clark would make an excellent running mate
for Obama.

He is still part of the old school baby boomer generation. I have always respected him, but his endorsement does not carry the weight the Clinton's would like it to.

2. Thats the way the OP presented it. Several of us questioned if Clark would do such a thing
and if his words were taken out of context.

3. Well, they've given me a lot of fodder for my Ignore list.
Look, I'm an Obama supporter and I currently detest Hillary Clinton, but I'm not going to watch a good man get trashed like this.

4. Some of us wanted the real quotation
because we know the media likes to fabricate things and we admire Clark even though we don't agree with his choice of candidates this time around.

6. Thank you. Let's see how Hillary spins it before we bestow too many flowers.
No criticism of Wes Clark intended, but won't it be interesting to see how the spin version is used?

We shall see.

8. Not the first time Clark has been misquoted...seems the media
likes doing that to him, but since it is something that happens, everyone should check for themselves before jumping off the deep end...this place never ceases to amaze me....wb

Because, based on the newer threads, there still seems to be some really dumb people posting B.S. about Clark, and others buying into it.

18. There are some threads on GD: Primaries
which are perpetuating a bogus rumor, started by RawStory, that Clark claimed Obama isn't prepared or fit to be the Commander In Chief. The actual interview that Raw Fish Wrap based it's "story" on shows that, in fact, Clark did not say any such thing. The DU threads I'm referring to are posted and current on GD: Primaries.

17. There is a difference between bashing and ...
...former supporters of Clark who gave their all for him expressing how disappointed they are with his comments in favor of Hillary. They have a right to express their disappointment--and that is not bashing.

Slandering now qualifies as "expressing disappointment"?

20. Could you show me, please,, the "fact checking" you did to determine
that this story was false? Because I've looked and looked, and read several stories on this at several sites, and they all quote Clark as saying the same thing.

It was supposedly said in a conference call.. do you have a transcript for the call?

Now, your turn: Do you have links to the stories that quote Clark as saying what the RawStory claims he said?

26. ...
(transcribed as best I could related to the significant parts. How in the heck is this NOT saying that Clinton is ready, Obama is not?)

http://i.timeinc.net/time/2008/thepage/McCainAudioEdited.mp3

Wes Clark: "I found the comments quite disturbing because getting out of Iraq is going to be quite difficult..if you don't go into it with some fixed ideas in mind and i think Senator Clinton's plan has it right, you've got to work it through. You <paraphrased> must have a plan. If you simply show up..<not clear> you're going to own the war. Chaos, pandemonium, concerns about renewed civil war, neighbors in the region will be concerned. It's going to take real strength of character to execute a pullback from Iraq, and that means knowing where you're headed before you head down the path. So, I think what you got from Sen Clinton is a real plan that indicates the strength of character necessary to lead the nation and be the CiC of the Armed Forces. I'm quite concerned about what we've heard from the Obama camp today because I'm not sure exactly where it leaves us but i'm quite sure it will leave us still at war.

Jamie Rubin: I think Gen Clark has spoken to the substance of this and his words don't need any interpretation.

Calls Samantha Powers a "svengali guri". Says he feels sorry for her. "Obama has created an unworkable structure in his FP team, that's his fault. I feel sorry for her that she's been put in a position that he can't run a FP Team the way its supposed to be run. Obama says the way he's running his campaign is indicative of his ability to be President. WORDS MATTER." (He then lies about NAFTA again and says Obama team is Amateur Hour) "The reason words matter in this case, in many respects this election is a referendum on Iraq."

Says Obama is misleading the public about the war and I couldn't listen to any more of his slanderous spinning bullshit.

22. I'm a big time Clarkie, sent 500$ to his campaign in 04
and I wanted him to run this year but no luck.

My problem with him is that he has allowed himself to be soiled by the Clinton tactic of slash and burn that seeks to make Obama weaker in the general election for no other reason than to give Hillary another bite at the apple in 2112.

Hopefully all of this nastiness will soon end and Clark can take his place as a valuable part of an Obama administration.
