Here's an amusing scenario... |

If you were Hillary and you had the absolute GOODS on McCain's lobbyist affair, how would that affect your campaign? (Being able to drop it whenever it's most convenient, Hillary would know she couldn't lose the GE.)
The NYT story was a good thing, in my eyes, because it forced McCain to go on the record. Now it's a sword over his head, though everyone seems to have forgotten it.
Everyone also seems to have overlooked that the NYT made a factual claim that that he had confessed to it. Aides who had become convinced he was having sex with the lobbyist confronted him and he admitted his relationship was inappropriate, and said he's stop seeing her. (Funny how everyone managed to get vision-trouble whenever they read that sentence in the article.)
(This OP does not pretend to rise to even the level of speculation... it's just an amusing "paperback political novel" sort of thing to think about on a late Friday night.)

1. Hillary herself is too vulnerable over charges of being tight with lobbyists |
|
I doubt she's the candidate of our remaining two to take McCain to task over ties to lobbyists.
