All of you folks who keep saying she'll release her returns when everyone else does seems to forget we havent seen her returns from 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, & 2006

we're still waiting to see those shady dealings HRC.

1. tax returns
Not wanting to step on anyone's toes here, but does it really matter about these returns? I mean, who REALLY cares? Will the world stop turning if she doesn't disclose them?
I wouldn't even care if bush never disclosed his tax returns.(Heck, they are probably fake anyway)

2. I think it's important for all candidates
to disclose their finances.

So why didn't anybody say boo about John Edwards?
He didn't release his tax returns.

This is a made up issue. No candidates in the past have released their tax returns while still running for the nomination. It's not a tradition, it's not a requirement, it's not customary.

Clinton releases financial disclosure forms in her role as a Senator. She has said she will release her tax returns if she's the nominee, probably before. This is just a trumped up issue with which to attack her.

7. Is it a made up issue?
Edited on Sat Mar-08-08 10:46 AM by yourguide
If it's such an unimportant and made up issue then why did HRC demand it from her opponent in the senate race?

From NY Times:

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9C0CEEDB1739F934A2575AC0A9669C8B63&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=all

In recent months, the team has been trying to focus public scrutiny on Lazio. Wolfson himself, along with a Democratic State Committee member dressed as Uncle Sam, showed up at a Lazio event in Harlem in August, taunting Lazio with the first lady's New York property tax returns and challenging him to release his returns. In any other campaign, it might have been the candidate who seized such a photo op; but with his boss invested in preserving her dignity, it occasionally falls to Wolfson to supply those moments of semi-slapstick.

8. her opponent
had already secured the nomination, no?

Clinton has always said she'd release hers if she got the nomination.

9. As my senator
I would like to know period.

I dont think securing the nomination is really relevant, the point of releasing them is so the voters cand look over the entirety of the candidate. we have a contest here for the dem nominee, we should have transparancy.

10. You have her senate financial disclosure forms
and she said she'll release her returns.

This is a totally made up issue. Nobody said one word about it until Obama released his.

As I said before, there has NEVER been an expectation that candidates for the nomination release their tax returns. This is a totally trumped up issue being used by Obama for political gain.

11. ?
We are not talking about 2007 returns, we are talking about 2000-2006.

and again, if it's such a trumped up issue, if it's a nonissue, then why did HRC go after her senate opponent in NY with this?

why?

13. You're being deliberately obtuse
It's a made up issue because it's NEVER been expected that candidates would do so before securing the nomination.

In the senate case you're talking about, BOTH candidates had secured the nomination.

I suspect you guys are going to be very disappointed when she does release them. You seem to think she has an income line item called "Saudi Bribes" on there.

14. I think it's YOU that's being obtuse
she loaned her campaign $5 million dollars, I think the american people have the right to know where that money comes from.

I think that's the big issue. The american people need to know who is funding her campaign.

She's said she will.

It's a trumped up issue.

3. what is the big deal about tax returns?

4. It absolutely does. You don't get to call someone else out about being "open"...
...and "honest with the American People", and not do the same. But, her comment on this speaks volumes. "Chris, my intention is to release my tax records, and I truly hope it will happen." :wtf: They're her tax records no?

6. If she has nothing to hide
where are they? HRC keeps claiming she's going to release them, then pushes the date back. From what I've been reading, she has good reason not to release them, shady dealings is an understatement.

12. Its a made up story
and totally hypocritical. How many on this website would release their tax returns to the public? How many in the media would do it (thats why they are not pounding her about it)? Lets focus on the issues.

17. It IS an issue- one of trust and transparency in gov't
I have had it up to here (holding hand 8 ft. in the air) with the secrecy and scandals in gov't. We need to know who our legislators and executors are beholden to. I have some theories as to whom the Clintons are beholden to. Don't you think a potential PRESIDENT would want to be honest about how they made their money? At least one has been open about it, and it is NOT Hil.

19. And disclose all of that money from Dubai, Saudi, Qatar, Kuwait, Borat-land?
It would be a PR disaster if the Clintons had to defend all of their financial wheeling and dealings at a time when Hillary's coronation is on the line.
