What Star Trek can teach us about politics. |
|
One of the ongoing themes in both the original series and the Next Generation was the importance of emotions. We had Mr. Spock, the cool, logical alien fighting his emotional side and ultimately deciding that emotions were vital. WE had Data, the thinking machine, in a constant effort to develop emotions. (As a side note, Data developed a sense of humor only when he developed emotions.)
So what do we learn? Facts, logic, rationality are important, but emotional responses are also vital. EIther one without the other handicaps a person.
In theory, Obama and Clinton may have very similar agendas. Our rational side agrees with their proposals. That's half of our response to them. The other part of our response is our emotional response. For a lot of people, Senators Clinton and Obama evoke quite different emotional responses. We can discuss whether those responses are accurate, but we shouldn't trivialize those responses as meaningless.

1. I also like that Star Trek teaches us our first duty is to the truth, |

whether we like the truth or not, and even if it hurts us in the beginning - AND that we have a duty to own up to our faults, mistakes, and sins. And to do so without emotional outbursts, gossip, rumor, and innuendo. Something I wish a lot of Hillary and Obama supporting DUers would learn, instead of just hurling vomit and acid at each other.
Oh, and it also taught us that yes, there is much sex to be had in space. :D

as either Kirk or Spock said; "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few"...take heed Clinton-crats...it's about us ALL and NOT just about Hillary and her ambition

I loved how he was whining and convincing others to do all the dirty work for him!
The plot was a tad heavyhanded, but the acting on all involved was compelling. Didn't Frank Gorshin win an award for his portrayal of Bele?
