Rep. Steve King ought to be shit-canned for his crazy anti-Obama rhetoric
Not much to say about this crazy statement, other than it should be no surprise this is exactly what the pukes will bring to bear against Obama in the GE. As aberrant as the statement is, better to vet this fear mongering BS now. It will be replayed in many forms from many sheeple between now and election day.

As an aside, why is an asswipe like Steve King even allowed to remain in his position? Has John McCain expressed his concerns regarding King's statement? The GOP leadership?

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa Republican congressman said Friday that terrorists would be "dancing in the streets" if Democratic candidate Barack Obama were to win the presidency.

Rep. Steve King based his prediction on Obama's pledge to pull troops out of Iraq, his Kenyan heritage and his middle name, Hussein.

"The radical Islamists, the al-Qaida … would be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on Sept. 11 because they would declare victory in this war on terror," King said in an interview with the Daily Reporter in Spencer.

King said his comments were not meant to demean Obama but to warn how an Obama presidency would look to the world.

"His middle name does matter," King said. "It matters because they read a meaning into that."

The Illinois senator, born in Hawaii to a white Kansas woman and a Kenyan man, is a Christian and has said he has little connection to the Islamic religion, though he acknowledges he spent part of his childhood in largely Muslim Indonesia.

In criticizing King, Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said, "These comments have no place in our politics." He called on John McCain, the apparent Republican nominee, to "repudiate them like he has previous offensive comments from his supporters."

Last month, McCain denounced an introduction from Cincinnati talk-show host Bill Cunningham, who referred to Obama three times as "Barack Hussein Obama."

UPDATE: CNN's Deirde Walsh reports that Brandon Lerch, a spokesman for Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), says the congressman stands by the comments.

If you don't mind Amerigo - consider this thread more bad PR for that racist bigot.

Though I defer folks to your thread (above) for LOTS OF CONTACT info to protest his statement.

Thanks!!!

6. Yes, absolutely, as much attention as possible.
People like King tend to "get away with it."

That's why I posted all of the multiple phone numbers and the link to his email form...anyone who thinks this guy, this PAID PUBLIC SERVANT, is out of line, can light the hell out of his phone lines. Let his staffers earn their keep. Let King know how America feels about a racist on the payroll in 2008.

BTW, love the way Obama asks McCain to repudiate this pieceofshit but he stood by while his surrogates pulled the race card on Hillary. I believe he said something tepid against the slur after it had done its work.

edit to add-- :nopity:

4. let these morans spout their crap
this is exactly the sort of stuff that people don't want to hear

this helps Obama in the long run

people know that this is a lie, and anyone who believes it wouldn't be voting for him in November anyway

7. Steve King is as twisted and vile as they come.
McCain going to be busy keeping up with denouncing all the weirdos in the GOP.

8. King represents the far western part of Iowa,
an IA area that is traditionally very evangelical and very Catholic--very, very conservative. Recently I saw a poll that showed him at less than 50% favorability in his district, so who knows what will happen in the fall. Fortunately central and eastern Iowa tend to be more urban and liberal and balance things out in statewide races. Two eastern IA Repub reps were booted for great Dems in 2006 and they're doing a great job for us in Congress. Our governor is a Dem and our state legislature turned blue in both houses in '06.

9. Disgusting
Any chance we can defeat this asshole in November?

Either way, we ought to make a big stink about this. Force McCain and the GOP leadership to rebuke him for it.

14. No need to insult Hillary supporters with this (or anything)
Edited on Sat Mar-08-08 04:14 PM by RiverStone
ANY American from either party for any candidate would denounce this...

I did not post King's rant to politicize it; regardless of who someone supports or not - we all should shine the light on this cockroach. Hopefully by doing so - we will force him to scamper back into the shadows where he belongs.

13. This is part of a concerted effort on the part of the GOP
to label Obama a Muslim, which plays upon both racism and anti-Islamic prejudice. My boss heard this garbage from his preacher, and won't hear any form of reason on the matter.

15. I e-mailed Culver and pointed out to him that King represents Iowans
and this bigotry reflects badly on us as a state. I strongly encouraged him to denounce these words.

16. There is going to be a lot more of this
And asking McCain to denounce it is not the way to go. Let all these crazy bigots shake hands with McCain. They scare most people and will not help their candidate.

Anyone see the Bill Moyers show last night on McCain's endorsements from John Hagee and Geroge Bush? It was brilliant.

17. D at Lawers, Guns, and Money has the proper response to Rep. King - Ridicule
<snip>

Barry Morris Goldwater. Recognizing the hidden meaning of his middle name, cats and their human companions voted overwhelmingly in favor of the 1964 Republican nominee, based largely on their conviction that he would not urinate in their shoes and scratch the fuck out of their couches. Unfortunately for Goldwater, people who did not want to perish in a tornado of fire also voted that year.
