Wyoming must be deprived of its convention delegates!
And the same applies to any other state that the Democratic candidate is deemed unlikely to carry in November. Only states that are deemed likely to go for the Democrat in November should be allowed a part in nominating the Democratic candidate.

At least, that's what I deduce from posts by Clinton supporters belittling Obama victories in certain states.

Wait! Maybe such states should be allowed delegates, but they should only be allowed to count as, oh, I dunno, say 3/4 of a regular delegate.

1. think red
Do you really think your candidate is going to take the red states in November? Get a grip! He will lose Florida, hell, he doesn't even want them to count, he will lose the entire south, most of the midwest, both Dakotas, Arizona and probably Nevada, definitely Texas and Oklahoma. If he can't get both Florida and Ohio, he's out of luck.

2. First, I dispute that prediction
And second, even I thought it were true, I still wouldn't accept the implication that convention delegates won in those states are less important than delegates won elsewhere.

3. Is there any proof that Hillary would win Texas and Ohio in November?
Just because she won a Dem. primary has no bearing on how she'll do in November.

12. I was a political science major. You miss the point
Al Gore, John Kerry and Jimmy Carter all won the Ohio primary. A Dem is always going to win a Dem primary.

8. That's exactly what I'm thinking of.
And it's time to spread the Democratic party out. 50 State Strategy for the future. We have to find new votes, whereever they are, or we'll be stuck in a 51-49 gridlock forever.

This is the way forward, and it's becoming more clear with every primary and caucus.

6. think coattails.
Obama can bring down ticket Democrats along for the ride in lots of these Red States even if he doesn't win the State, he could win their districts.

29. ?? I'm not. That's SUSA's map -- I was emphasizing Nebraska
Edited on Sat Mar-08-08 07:18 PM by Abacus
I think we'll carry both NJ and PA. I thought it was remarkable that we might actually go half Dem this year; I was responding to someone who thought we couldn't win red states in the GE. Just sayin'...

From wikipedia:
For most of its history, Nebraska has been a solidly Republican state. Republicans have carried the state in all but one presidential election since 1940—the 1964 landslide election of Lyndon B. Johnson. In the 2004 presidential election, George W. Bush won the state's five electoral votes by a 33% margin (the fourth-most Republican vote among states) with 65.9% of the overall vote; only Thurston County, which includes two American Indian reservations, voted for John Kerry.

25. Pennsylvania went for Kerry in 2004.
I wouldn't give it to McCain in 2008. The big cities blew the Bush voters out of the water and can do the same this go-around.

5. Maybe the 12 delegates seem somewhat insignificant?
Vermont has 15 and Obama people didn't seem to get that excited over it.

in each state the same. It's insane, I know..but they seem to have this crazy idea that they were in a Primary race and the rules were already in place before it began!!

10. Guess all those steak-eating, blue-jean and cowboy-hat wearing,
rodeo-riding, leather-boot-wearing, plaid-shirt-wearing, beer-drinking,
blue-collar-working, pickup-truck-driving, bar-going, pool-shooting folks out in Wyoming were just too "mesmerized" by Obama to resist.

(Quite a coalition isn't it, with the above folks standing with all those
"Birkenstock-wearing, latte-drinking, Volvo-driving, trust-fund-babies" who are just as "taken-in" by the young guy from Illinois who has only spent 20 years of his life serving others in and out of both state and national government.)

GO OBAMA! YOU'RE AWESOME !!

The point couldn't have been made without assuming, for one thing, that all people in Wyoming are men. It's a poor way to makean argument IMO.

23. Wyoming's not one of the States That Matter (tm).
In order to become one of Hillary Clinton's Super Special Awesome States That Matter (tm), the qualifications are that you must be named one of these: Massachusetts, California, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan (cause she "won" it), Florida (see Michigan), New Jersey, New York, and Texas (but only for the primary, in the general it won't count again)

30. Call it the Starbuck's Penalty, calculated by the formulae:
Voters divided by Starbuck's Locations then divided again by per capita Latte consumption. Divide the result by yearly statewide Birkenstock sales, subtract cowboy hats and Hillary supporters, record result as votes for Obama. Multiply together cowboy hats and Hillary supporters, record result as votes for Hillary.
