Clinton-Obama War Creates Serious Tensions at DailyKos

March 15, 2008 10:14 AM

This is how ugly things have gotten between supporters of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama -- Clinton supporters are staging what they call a "strike" at the influential liberal website DailyKos.

It's not really a "strike" -- blogging for these diarists is not a job, and stopping their blogging won't cause them financial hardship.

But, that said, these diarists' boycott of DailyKos is indicative of the turmoil in which the Democratic party finds itself.

Well this should get some comments

16. Kinda reminds me of '04...
When a large group of adamant Dean supporters switched all their avatars to Lieberman and left soon after to start their own site.

One thing I really miss from '04 was the rules in GD:P that encouraged civility. This is getting ridiculous.

have done great damage to BOTH Dem candidates, and have made rational debate an impossibility. Although they are in the minority, they have been able to drown out the majority.

109. I don't think either candidate benefits from an echo chamber
I've found it interesting to read both sides of the argument when an issue and/or scandal emerges to the forefront. There are folks on both sides that present cogent threads pro or con -- you just have to read past the multitude of "you lie, Hillbot/Obamatron!!11!!!1 n/t" posts to get to them. I've found I can get a lot more red meat from GD-P with a well-endowed ignore list.

Hang tough, Clinton supporter. This Obama supporter has got your back! :pals:

...that there are still a number of fair-minded but loyal Clinton supporters who do not participate in the name-calling and mudslinging (and the same goes for a large number of Obama supporters). You hardly notice them because they're quiet, for the most part, but they'll pop up here and there and contribute something very reasoned and sincere. I hope we don't lose them. I'm sure we all hope we don't lose them.

Rather than add intelligent comments to correct information on HRC or defend her, they are essentially taking their ball away and going home. DKos always has had favorites, but it was and is possible for those favoring people who are not favorites to get our voices in. In some ways, it is likely MORE important to correct what you see as lies or half truths in hostile places. Some readers may still be on the fence - it could be your content that either convinces them or prevents them from buying the content someone else wrote. You win more speaking to people not with you, rather than those who agree 100%.

I suspect that there will be HRC supporters remaining on DKOS.

Huh? Are you saying you'll strike?

Girl please. Are you all so shortsighted that you can't figure this out? No damn wonder she's behind.

If you all strike then there'll be just that much less support here for a Republican-lite cheating, soulless candidate who stretchingly calls herself Democrat.

Me? I've got no problem with your agenda. I think she's bad for this country. But my opinion isn't supposed to count because I'm just some Obama nut who's naive regarding his real abilities.

bla bla bla bla bla.

Oh yeah -- And Geraldine spoke from her heart with no preconceived agenda or concert with HRC... Uh huh.

I think it'll be good because I think HRC should drop out of the race for the sake of the Democratic Party. I'm sick of seeing pro-Hillary stuff here.

I don't think it'll be good because there are so many HRC supporters here who are good people and good Democrats and I don't want to see them go.

You don't care if we have another four years with a Republican in the White House.

You don't care about FISA

You don't care about the Supreme Court

You don't care about health care

You don't care about a recession

You don't care about the increasing gap between the rich and poor

That's right--you just like to puff out your chest and call people names. Well, enjoy life under President McCain!

56. You know I never realized that me sitting here in my drawers, scratching
my kibbles and bits with my left hand and typing with my right would have such a dramatic impact on the American political landscape.

All kidding aside, I didn't know Obama had approached Hillary on this subject. I think he is a really good candidate and I would expect him to always take the high road. Now I would be interested in hearing what Hillary's reply was. What do you think it will be?

But it's a moot point. I have my right to free speech, regardless of what any candidate would say. If my support hurts my candidate, well that's just how the market works.

Gore didn't get a do-over. Kerry didn't get a do-over. Hillary won't get a do-over. Obama won't get a do-over.

He ran in 1988, remember? And Obama is young enough to run again in '12 or '16. Less certain for Hillary, but even she might try again.

45. I know how they feel...attacked at every sentence
personally. It is as if there are attack gnats waiting for one question of Obama or one defense of the outrageous many times sexist attacks on Clinton. The attack gnats are vicious and ugly and constant. What is the point of posting on a "progressive" board that only sees one side and attacks others?

Democracy continues its slide down the porcelain bowl, while "progressives" cheer the loss of 1/2 of the democratic population.

and there are things that disturb me, but that has nothing to do with why I can not support her. In my mind she has aligned herself with Joe Lieberman through the words and actions she has chosen to avail herself of in this campaign. The deep division in the Democratic Party did not come from the bottom up, but from the top down. It did not have to be this way.

Yes, I want them to leave. It has nothing to do with Obama's message of Unity. We wouldn't open the door to Free Republic, why does DU allow them to foment hate here? No one posting anything about Obama is free from personal attack, no one. You can't reach out to them, because they lie and distort, just like Hillary does.

But all I hear is how Hillary supporters cannot be democrats, no democrat would support Hillary. Blah, blah, blah. Get the fuck out of the party horrible Hillary supporter. 84. I'm a little Hitler
I’ve noticed this tendency among progressive bloggers as well myself. They’re increasingly rude. It seems that they have decided that Republicans and the Clintons are the enemy. That’s also one of the reasons that I think that Obama’s movement is more about personality and is more liberal, than many moderates think and want to believe. These progressives are turning into little Hitlers for Obama.

Alegre is also angry because he noticed that Markos et al. don’t do anything to force progressive Obama supporters to behave like adults. Instead, Markos has become increasingly anti-Clinton and pro-Obama himself, Alegre writes. Daily Kos isn’t a “progressive community” anymore, it’s a pro-Obama community.
And how does Markos react to the ’strike?’ That’s right, by showing that he’s in reality one arrogant son of a gun: “First, these people should read up on the definition of ’strike.’ What they’re doing is a ‘boycott.’ But whatever they call it, I think it’s great. It’s a big Internet, so I hope they find what they’re looking for.”

How many threads sounding like Sean Hannity's program have been started here in the last month?

When Hillary's supporters get their "talking points" from Hannity, they are no longer doing the work of the Democratic party - they are aiding McCain.

And if Hillary doesn't drop out before May 1st, the DU May Day Peace Picnic may have to be cancelled!

127. So exactly what are they missing at Kos with alegre
Well one of her most recent posts challenging the attacks against Hillary on inflating her credentials on Ireland was the fact that she appeared in a picture (not kidding) here it is

For anyone who might doubt Hillary's connection to Northern Ireland, take a look at this recent picture of her with two of the particpants in those peace talks in the mid-90s, (Big) Ian (blood & thunder) Paisley (DUP), and Martin McGuinnes(Sinn Fein). They used to hate each other (hell maybe they still do) but are now serviing as the top two members of the Belfast government. They came over to DC on a trip to promote investment in Northern Ireland and stopped by to visit their old friend, Hillary.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/3/10/233439/265/973/473984

In her expanded blog it then contained feet of press releases from Hillary Hub and then she was roundly criticized for her superficial post, but not in a very harsh way at all.

I honestly don't think she would have lasted at DU very long her skin isn't thick enough and her posts weren't original or substantive enough. Most of vigorous Hill devotees show more substance and stronger resiliancy than 'alegre'

135. I would describe it more as a tantrum
doesn't really raise to the level of a strike.

137. Interesting. Obama people here use Ignore, Clinton people there don't post.
Both pointless exercises.

I don't, if they can't stand having civil discuss about their candidate maybe they should
be posting somewhere else, like freeper land, they seem to be picking information from newsmax,
new republic and faux news, so fuck em.......enough of this crap of forcing issues down
peoples throat even when they disagree with their distorted info.

We see the same thing here, where people ignore you just because they either disagree or
refused to see your point. Why would the media gets involved beats me, what, they think by
inviting the media thats going to change all the crap they've been spewing.

Kos should bloody ban them, prevent them from writing on dailykos, I have read most of their posts
on that list and majority of them writes inflammatory threads.

The Clinton's are attacking everything Liberals, makes you wonder does she really care
for the people and issues or just her selfish ego?

:wtf: :argh:

152. I've been offline, and am sickened to come back to responses in this thread.
Although I voted for Obama in my primary, and am a maxed-out contributor to his campaign, I am one of the millions of Dems in the real world who admire both him and Senator Clinton. I know vitriol here goes both ways, but Clinton supporters are outnumbered at DU. And now we have in this thread stated opinions that they should just shut up and leave.

So shall we just call it, as some of the Hillary supporters suggest, Obama Underground? Or how about those who only want to hear from other Obama supporters going over to Barack's website?

I miss DU. Yes, I was here in '04 -- and I never thought during that period of strife that the DU I've known for all these years might be gone forever.

For the record, I have no desire to be here if all of our party is not welcome.
