Obama's big speech: Prepare to be raptured |
|
It is clear from DU and elsewhere that Obama is a very divisive figure. his big speech moment will undoubtedly call for healing the wounds of the past and healing divisions.
It took him five days to speak on this crisis which doesn't say much for his crisis management skills but now he will wheel out the words on "the larger issue of race in this campaign".
And I am sure it will rapture in this prepared speech. When talking on his feet, in a press conference or television interview, he not so effective.
This won't be all the evasive and clumsy responses to awkward questions - the crazy uncle and he "wasn't there" and all the other lame excuses but rather soaring rhetoric to heal the sick and raise the dead. Rather than being a candidate on the run he will be the prophet on the mountain top.
He always tries to convey that he is the embodiment of racial healing. And for sure there is a lot of need for that about - merely witness the last two weeks. Let alone the much broader and longer picture. Yet the reality is he is a most divisive figure. A most divisive figure - not in himself biologically, but in his attitudes, and most especially in his more abject followers who take every question about him not as a slight or concern but a full frontal attack. Even when he is ahead they react as sore winners and need to demean and destroy the opposition as enemies. And they use the weapons of division to do it - age, race, gender.
Obama appears to offer "racial healing" which is exactly why his two decades of cleaving to the teachings of a ranting racial hater so shocking. The body blow impact of gratuitously cruel pastoral rants contradicts the promise of healing and unity and bringing us together.
That is the dilemma Obama is in. no doubt he will rapture us with his words. And there is much that he can say that would be helpful. An apology to all those who have been consigned to the racist bin for questioning his suitability for president would be an excellent start. He could follow with a heartfelt apology.
This speech follow a formula and we have seen hints of it in the interview with Gwen Ifill.
But all the great words in the world will mean nothing is he continues the politics of division and carve and conquer. And all the great words do not make him the perfect political prince who is ready to ascend to the presidency. They might help the racial divide by bringing new understanding. but actions speak louder than words. He has some years ahead to start that hard work.
Gobama for 2016

Edited on Tue Mar-18-08 07:17 AM by ThatBozGuy
Interesting thing about word clouds they measure frequency of word use but they often uncover hidden agendas or even hidden truth.
If we remove the most common this and that. The highest frequency words make a pretty cohesive sentence by frequency of use the order is by frequency.
The human subconscious is a very powerful beast and it can know more about us than we can ever know about ourselves.
Heres your cloud for that post Jo.
his speech will for healing him to speak on this crisis which say much but he words not be all racial
Good luck with that complex there JoFerret.

30. That is quite the loaded question there |
|
"are you someone who just doesn't give a shit about the SC, torture, the environment and so much more?"
You are assuming, then, that someone who votes outside of your pre-approved parameters somehow is either willfully ignorant or just plain evil?
I would argue that there are hundreds of thousands of people who will cast a pox on BOTH mainstream houses, and they will do so precisely because of your small minded views.
I often wonder why folks who spew such nonsense do not understand that they hinder their cause far more than they will ever help it.
But then again, they call themselves "progressives" in the mirror (since no one is there to take them to task), and this makes them all aglow.
Heck, I'll bet you even attended an anti-war rally and buy organic.
Bear Stearns thanks you, as do the corporate candidates on both sides who will trip over themselves to bail out the next in line.

I don't hate Obama. i think he is far better than many of his supporters in real life and on DU. One day he will, or may, make a great president.

No one's trying to change any minds in this forum. Which is a good thing because shit-starters like the OP has nothing good to say about her candidate, just nasty snide shit about someone else's.

34. Cali, some people will refuse to come together for a common... |
|
cause, they feel THEIR cause is more important than anyone else's! They will remain asleep at the wheel until they crash and THEIR FAMILY is affected. I wouldn't waste your time and positive energy on folks like this, these kind of people live and thrive off of their fighting and disruption. Sometimes when a immature child acts up, they do it for the attention, just ignore these folks and they will find themselves lonely and miserable.
I am not saying not to refute things when they are misrepresenting the facts to others but educate those they try to poison and ignore the immature children. Maybe after everyone stops giving them attention, they will wake up to reality and become a part of helping the country. If we are enablers to these people, we are just as guilty, don't help them spread their hate. If no one responds to their nonsense, what will they do, keep replying to their own post, talking to themselve? Let them, it just shows how unstable they are!

Just because a bunch of wild-eyed supporters will criticize anything that Obama does hardly signals a larger pool of voters.
People have very high ratings for him on the positive-negative scale. Clinton has some of the highest negative ratings of ANY national figure, in politics or wherever. That's divisive.
