Bill Schneider on Obama's speech: |
|
"Well, this is the most sophisticated speech about race and race relations in America frankly than I've ever heard. It is more than any scholarly treatment, certainly than any political treatment." He went on from there but I thought this was striking coming from Schneider.

2. I agree with Schneider. Why are you surprised? |
|
In contrast to the gang at MSNBC, the CNN people do appear neutral, giving both candidates an equal chance.
But, of course, if you get your opinions from NBC MSNBC and Newsweek, a balanced report from other sources will appear biased.

and I would venture to say just by reading over this lil critique of obama's speech, hell, by sunset, this speech will be there with dr king's speech...abe's speech, moses's speech, and the sermon on the mount....but all those speeches did not begin with trying to cover up a lie......

7. Its a very subtle speech and I am going to have to listen to it several times |
|
before I think I really understand the full impact of what he is saying.
For example he gives a very piercing criticism of Black leaders like Wright who are stuck in a paradigm insisting that what
has happened in America is static and that it cannot ever get better.

9. I am here because of Ashley |
|
Brilliant on so many levels
One of parts of Obama's genius is that he doesn't over use a story - Edwards used the same stories until they became stale.
Retelling the Ashley story at the end was absolutely brilliant.

or the 2004 presidential debates.
When something is UNSPINNABLE they soberly acknowledge what just occurred. They truly don't what else to say at these times without sounding like complete fascist tools.

18. One of my most vivid memories of Katrina is watching Fox News. |
|
One of the douchebag anchors in New York was spinning, spinning, spinning. He was trying to get Shepard Smith to spin the disaster in a pro-Bush, pro-Republican way. Shepard, to his credit, just didn't bite. Standing in flood water, he basically just said the situation was horrible and that the people of New Orleans had been let down. I couldn't believe what I'd seen, on Fox News, of all places.

13. I think I am getting HOPEful!! How exciting for us. If he can answer these |
|
irrational pundit slurs/charges. He can do anything. Pardon me, I sort of almost expected him to do a Bush and come out and say "Rev Right? Who? Rev. White? I've never met him." Not really, but, you know how awful it has been being a Democrat the last 8 years. Only in nightmares could we imagine what has gone on. I was having a bout of insomnia the other night and pulled some video off the shelf and found that (oh, goody!) an old Daily Show I hadn't seen. Then another one, then 2 Soprano episodes that were great, though I had seen them, then 3 evening news shows that were recorded in Feb, 1998. In the first one, Bill Clinton held up a poster board with a big $0 on it, saying the debt was paid off and we had $3 trillion surplus so that we could protect Social Security way into the next century. The next news show had some of the ugliest republic Senators/Representatives saying how we didn't need a surplus, what we needed was a big tax break so the people could keep their money. You know, blah blah... It was so dang depressing, and I was half asleep. Could not get the energy to operate the remote. As you guys have taught me Christ on a cracker!!! Our country has been invaded by a bunch of morans!!1!!
