This is a fucking outrage. The media needs to cover McCain's gaffe in Jordan today
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/03/18/a_mccain_gaffe_in_jordan.html

AMMAN, Jordan -- Sen. John McCain, traveling in the Middle East to promote his foreign policy expertise, misidentified in remarks Tuesday which broad category of Iraqi extremists are allegedly receiving support from Iran.

He said several times that Iran, a predominately Shiite country, was supplying the mostly Sunni militant group, al-Qaeda. In fact, officials have said they believe Iran is helping Shiite extremists in Iraq.

Speaking to reporters in Amman, the Jordanian capital, McCain said he and two Senate colleagues traveling with him continue to be concerned about Iranian operatives "taking al-Qaeda into Iran, training them and sending them back."

Pressed to elaborate, McCain said it was "common knowledge and has been reported in the media that al-Qaeda is going back into Iran and receiving training and are coming back into Iraq from Iran, that's well known. And it's unfortunate." A few moments later, Sen. Joseph Lieberman, standing just behind McCain, stepped forward and whispered in the presidential candidate's ear. McCain then said: "I'm sorry, the Iranians are training extremists, not al-Qaeda."

Iraq and the war is the meats and bones of his candidacy and he doesn't know this relatively rudimentary detail? Imagine if Obama said something like this. The wolves would be out. So much for McCain's "experience".

The media instead would rather focus on a week old story about Reverend Wright.

5. This is equivalent to Bush's...
...not knowing who Musharraf was/is.

But of course, the media is too busy chasing racist/sexist ghosts to be concerned with a mere GOP photo op, right?

8. McCain probably thinks they are called Sunni because there's a lot of sun there
Grandpa McCain't still doesn't know the chess pieces after five years of war. Actually, he's a Republican. They don't know the difference between a Sunni and a Shiite. They're the Evildoers to these fuckshits.

13. Obama will get no help from the media
once the nomination is in the bank, he'll have to do their jobs for them, bringing up stuff like this and the affair with the lobbyist and the flip-flops and every issue.

22. The thing is, this is only symptomatic of the entire "surge is working" bs
It needs to be used to headline a short set of talking points to counter the lie of the 'working surge' that McCain, Bush, and the media are successfully pulling over on the people.
