Al Gore will save the planet but Barack Obama will save this country.
Edited on Wed Mar-19-08 09:24 AM by Marnieworld
I was long hoping for Al Gore to enter the race, probably not giving up until October. I was for Edwards and then Obama because he was what was left. I definitely did not support Clinton for many factors before the campaign, and how she has run her campaign has completely soured my feelings for her and my previously warm feelings for Bill. I truly believe that she would continue the Bush problems and not correct the damage. I have a strong distrust of anyone who is as secretive about their Presidential papers, First Lady papers, and tax returns. I also find her too hawkish and her recent comments about wanting gratitude from Iraqis turned my stomach. I think any other candidate would have left the race by now to avoid damaging the party, certainly with all of the odds against her and that also really offends me as a Democrat. I write this not to bash her, but make it clear that I am not swooning and deluded or sexist (I am a woman) or any of the other diminishing and dismissive responses I've seen here to people who are not fans of Hillary. I do not support her for thought out, valid reasons. I just wanted to make it clear that originally I was for Obama because I was anti-Hillary. But that was before I got to know him. Now I am Pro-Obama. An Obamaniac truly.

I never had a problem with him, always respected and liked him but didn't know enough about him to be really informed. After he won the Grammy I bought a copy of The Audacity of Hope on audiobook and was very impressed and encouraged. As the campaign wore on I was extremely impressed with how he never sunk to the level of political nastiness especially when the other side was getting more and more nasty in their attacks. He started to become not just the only choice, but a choice that I was excited about, proud to declare allegiance to if asked.

After hearing just one speech of his I knew America would definitely deserve such eloquence after 8 years of an illiterate buffoon. What a delicious treat any press conference would be, any State of the Union. But after yesterday's speech, after the speech that brought tears to my eyes, chills to me even as I recall it now, I realize what power he has and how much more he can give us. Words change reality. Speeches are communications of visions, of plans for leadership. Leaders must inspire. They cannot act alone. That is the beauty in the design of our great country. After what we have witnessed and endured over these past 8 years it is a miracle to find a way to hope that we can heal. I believe in the hope now where I had lost it before. He has given it back to me. He showed such courage, such wisdom in his words and his choice to say them. It's truly a generous and great gesture to try and be the vessel for America to heal further on the subject of race, but it leads me to wonder how would he approach all of the other problems facing us.

We have endured a sociopathic presidency and we have an opportunity to receive an empathetic presidency. Empathy was the prevailing thread throughout his speech and all of his ideas it seems. He saw the white and black point of views. When he says he wants unity I believe him and he challenges me to let go of my anger and resentment and visualize a day when bipartisanship is more than a phrase. That you don't forget what has transpired, you do not bow down to injustice, but you never forget the basic human dignity and decency when you approach everyone you work with to find the solution. This is truly the approach that can heal us. He does not hide from revealing harsh realities and injustices. A Consitutional scholar can bring life back to that great document that defines us. But he has a wise, loving heart that I see now and I know that America would truly benefit from him. This is his time and I so hope it happens.

Incidentally, I am a registered Democrat in PA. How do you like them apples?

Peace DU. I love all of you even my Clinton supporting brothers and sisters. We are Democrats together. We are Americans.

I feel the same way!!!!!!!

I am sick of secrecy like we have in Bush!!!!!!

Not this time.......This time is Obama time!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had 2 sons in the Iraq Wars I & 2 - I had prayed to God & asked him why he kept men like Bush & Cheney in office. Now when I hear Obama speak I think we were supposed to have this man at this time - not as a Saviour but like Lincoln as a leader to get us down the road to a more perfect Union!
