It was 16 minutes and some change, before the audience interrupted him with their first round of applause. I've never seen a political speech like it, where the audience was so caught up in the speech they didn't - or couldn't - break in, even to applaud.
I just finished watching Obama's speech, and am totally stunned. I want to cheer, to shout, to cry.
But most of all, I want to hope.
Amazing. If you have not watched it, spend 38 minutes discovering that there is, at last, a politician WHO GETS IT.
And prepare to hope...

And get used to it - this is the effect this speech is having.

9. "the effect this speech is having." |
|
Basically- it's the effect of preaching to the choir.
My observations are that those on the fence- and certainly Republicans (who Obama tried to reach out too) aren't feeling the same effects.
Bottom line- it's a start, but expect to keep hearing about this- and doing damage control, for many months.

10. So what's wrong with that? |
|
Millions of people go to church for the same reason every Sunday - is there ANYTHING new in that? Plus, I have not seen anything out of a modern politician that can even compare to the honesty expressed in his speech.

I get the feeling that many of the people who find Obama's speech so rabidly objectionable - haven't actually watched it...I myself was rather uninterested in all of the hype surrounding it - until I watched it, and now understand people's reaction to it. I'm still amazed and astounded.

11. No, I'm pretty sure they watched it |
|
The reaction is too bizarre to be anything but a desperate attempt to redirect attention away from the pure triumph of Obama's speech.

12. Then they didn't listen as Americans, but only as partisans |
|
After about 4 minutes, I stopped paying attention to the man, so powerful were his words, and message. I understand how people can close their hearts - I do it myself. But this man was not addressing POLITICS - he was addressing US. Only a partisan would fail to see that, methinks...

Of what? I don't get it? I have many emotions concerning Hillary - nowhere among them, is envy.

You're down from three.
But next time, I want to see one posted the same time as the OP.
