I am 100% emotionally invested in this election |
|
I am 100% emotionally invested in Barack Obama becoming the next President of the United States.
When I see him being swiftboated by the media and the internet, it hurts, because I'm so afraid that people are going to let this opportunity slip by.
If he isn't the one being sworn in on January 20, 2009, I will never vote or participate in national politics again.

Believe me, I know how you feel. Hell, I cried like a baby when he lost NH. But its important to stay involved. If you dont, you leave it up to the rest of them. Channel your feelings into something that makes a difference. But dont give up.

3. I'm pretty much done with this party if they discard our best hope for the party's future |

in favor of cynical old politics and divide-and-conquer and lobbyist control of our government.

5. There are people just as invested on the other side |
|
I felt desperate when Edwards dropped out, I believed so strongly in his message. I felt the same about Gore, and Harken back in 1992.
Now I am backing Clinton, and I have made an emotional investment too. I like her, and I think she would make a fine president. But I don't think it would be a fair comment for me to say I'm so emotionally invested in her (or any candidate) that I'll never participate again if it doesn't work out. Emotion runs high on both sides.

15. You think she will be a "fine" president... |
|
...while we think Obama could be a GREAT president.
See the difference?
I'm not belittling your choice, believe me. At one time, I agreed with you that Hillary would make a good...possibly VERY good president. I no longer feel that way at all.
But Hillary is a politician, and can never be anything more than that. Obama can become a STATESMAN. That's something this country hasn't seen in an awfully long time.

17. Actually, I think she would be a better president than he would. |
|
She is such a hard worker. I want a president who is like that. I personally don't see Obama as a statesman, but that aside, I think we are going to have a huge mess to clean up and I want someone engaged in all the details of that herself!!!

6. I'm not, thank the gods. |

I don't think I will EVER get emotionally invested in a primary again. 2004 was my final time. Too painful.

10. Listen up. You need to hear this. |
|
Wake up. This isn't the last important election.
Grow up. This is bigger than your feelings.
Saddle up. Go fight for a win for Obama in the meantime.

11. I feel your pain ... me, too ... I'm trying to "disengage" to an extent |
|
because this latest round of the "kitchen sink" strategy has torn me to shreds. This is a good man and I know I'll be crestfallen if we end up tossing him aside in favor of the slice-and-dice politics the Clintons are famous for. Only this election has taught me that what the right said about them during the '90s was partially true -- they truly WILL do almost anything to win elections. The sad thing is, now that I know this, it'll be hard for me to be as enthusiastic about her as nominee/president as I was about her husband (since during his tenure I was "blissfully ignorant" of his brand of cutthroat politics).

With Obama.
Without Obama.
Now that you're emotionally invested, try getting intellectually invested.
At least just a little.
