Clinton aide: Obama pushing Wright photo "pathetic"
Clinton aide: Obama pushing Wright photo "pathetic"

Responding to the Times's report that Obama campaign had "provided" them a photo of Bill Clinton and Jeremiah Wright (which had surfaced a bit earlier here and elsewhere) , Clinton spokesman Jay Carson emails:

"The Obama campaign put this photo out? How pathetic," he said. "Less than 48 hours after calling for a high-minded conversation on race, the Obama campaign is peddling photos of an occasion when President Clinton shook hands with Rev. Wright. To be clear, President Clinton took tens of thousands of photos during his 8 years as president."

Trinity Church is a major Chicago institution making Wright a prominent pastor who was invited to a White House gathering for religious leaders on September 11, 1998.

4. Just another Photo Op
Are the Clintons gambling that none of us remember the Prayer Breakfast? That none of us watched the news that day? That Wright wasn't rather carefully chosen by the Clintons themselves to hear Bill's penance?

And, could you make that photo bigger? Please?

53. I don't know who decides the guest list at these functions, but there were about
100 preachers and church leaders there at that breakfast.

----------

This is the speech delivered by President Bill Clinton at the annual White House prayer breakfast on Friday, September 11, 1998, to an audience of more than 100 ministers, priests and other religious leaders assembled in the East Room. First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton was also in attendance.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0308/Clinton_aide_Obama_pushing_Wright_photo_pathetic.html

Obama spokesman Bill Burton responds:

After their top surrogates pushed this story line and Senator Clinton's campaign outlined this as a central strategy in her plan to overturn the will of Democratic voters, I can see why they wouldn't want a photo out there that shows the kind of hypocrisy we've all come to expect from their campaign.

46. Yeah, amazingly nasty, mean-spirited, deceptive and snarky.
This response was devoid of class, information, explanation, illumination or anything else other than spit-nasty GOP-style politics.

First, the Obama campaign pitifully floats a pic so innocuous they should have been ashamed of their own audacity. Nearly every half-assed famous person in America got their pic taken with Big Dog in the 90s. Even Richard Mellon Sciafe!

Then, when called on their juvenile, naa-naa-naa tactics, their response is equally insulting: they call Hillary a hypocrite (without explaining why) and falsely accuse her campaign of wanting to overthrow the will of the people. IOW, they refuse to answer a legitimate question and instead lash out with illegitimate, nasty-tempered, nastily phrased charges.

Yeah, that's amazing all right.

Amazing, because I've never before seen such sleazy behavior from a Democrat's campaign.

Produce that thank-you note, and then you'll be able to claim that Wright's appearance at Bill's "Lewinsky Penance Breakfast" was just a random, "everybody gets their picture with the President" photo-op.

How the hell do you know what kind of man Reverend Wright is???????? I just watched nearly 7 minutes of the "God Damn America" sermon and that snippet showed the way this sermon is portrayed is way out of context to what Rev Wright was actually saying.

Amazing how no church members have popped up to damn their preacher. Only the F'in media and the Clinton supporters who will smear a good man by 30 seconds or less of snippets taken from hundreds of hours of sermons!

Edited on Thu Mar-20-08 11:15 PM by Catherina
JANUARY 27, 1998

"I want to say one thing to the American people. I want you to listen to me. I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky"

SEPTEMBER 11, 1998

The Starr Report is released to the public

http://www.gpoaccess.gov/pr/media/1998/98news23.pdf

SEPTEMBER 12, 1998

With tears in his eyes, President Clinton told a roomful of clerics this morning that he had sinned, speaking just hours before the world was presented a painstaking account by prosecutors of when, where and how.

Addressing an annual prayer breakfast at the White House, Mr. Clinton drew on the New Testament, the Yom Kippur liturgy and Ernest Hemingway as he made his most abject confession yet of personal failure, while declaring that he would defend and redeem his Presidency.

‘’I don’t think there is a fancy way to say that I have sinned,'’ he admitted softly, saying that after resisting expressions of contrition he had reached ‘’the rock-bottom truth of where I am.'’

For the first time, Mr. Clinton also asked for forgiveness from Monica S. Lewinsky, on the day that the details of their intimate relationship — details that he had denied and struggled to suppress — poured out through the Internet, whose wonders as a tool of communication he has so often extolled.

42. No Obama's campaign isn't desperate.
The fact is, the Clinton campaign TRIED to exploit a complicated issue by relying on the bigotry and idiocy of people and got burned. If Wright is this so-called radical, black separatist, why in THE hell was he invited to the WH? FACT: Wright is a highly respected pastor who has done wonderful things in the Chicago community and around the WORLD. The Clintons RELY on black churches and preachers, but it was SO EASY for them to throw one under the bus in their pursuit for the nomination. This should be KNOWN to all. This is making its way around to all those black congregants sitting in "radical" churches across the country. Goes to show you how much the Clintons care about black churches...only when they need something.

HYPOCRISY is thy name.

How is pushing this photo fit into "I can't distance myself from him" and all that love they share? I am confused.

Obama Campaign Provides Photo of Rev. Wright Shaking Hands With Bill Clinton

I'm not sure whatpoint the Obama campaign thought they were making by providing the New York Times with a picture of Rev. Jeremiah Wright in a room full of people at a 1998 Prayer Breakfast at the White House shaking hands with Bill Clinton.

In providing the photograph to The New York Times, the Obama campaign appeared to be trying to divert some attention to the Clintons after a week in which Mr. Obama’s relationship with Mr. Wright has left him facing one of the biggest challenges of his campaign. There is nothing in the picture or the note that addresses whether Mr. Clinton had met Mr. Wright prior to the White House meeting or whether he or Mrs. Clinton knew anything about Mr. Wright’s views.

The Clinton campaign had this response (received by e-mail, no link)

"Less than 48 hours after calling for a high-minded conversation on race, according to the New York Times the Obama campaign is peddling photos of an occasion when President Clinton shook hands with Reverend Wright. To be clear, President Clinton took tens of thousands of photos during his eight years as president."
