2. Bill Clinton photo with Reverand Jeremiah Wright

Politico is reporting on a recently uncovered photo of Bill Clinton and Rev. Jeremiah Wright:

The recent coverage of Rev. Jeremiah Wright has often cast him as a marginal, almost fringe figure, but Trinity Church is a major Chicago institution, and Wright has long been a prominent pastor on the American scene.

And an anonymous blog set up to defend his church offers some compelling photographic evidence of this:
A photograph of Wright and President Clinton, which it says was taken on September 11, 1998 --
the date of a White House gathering for religious leaders.

Hillary Clinton, according to her recently-released schedule for the day, was present at the gathering.

That's where Clinton reportedly told the assembled clerics, at the depth of the Monica Lewinsky scandal, that he had "repented."

Obama Camp: Clinton Owes America Apology Over NAFTA Comments

Yesterday, with the release of Sen. Clinton's schedule as the former first lady, ABC reported:

One interesting event in Sen. Hillary Clinton's just-released schedules from the 1990s
comes on Nov. 10 1993, when the former first lady was to serve as the closing act during
a briefing on NAFTA, the trade agreement she now assails....

Two attendees of that closed-door briefing,
neither of whom are affiliated with any campaign, describe that event for ABC News.
It was a room full of women involved in international trade.
David Gergen served as a sort of master of ceremonies as various women members of
the Cabinet talked up NAFTA, which had yet to pass Congress.

"It wasn't a drop-by it was organized around her participation," said one attendee.
"Her remarks were totally pro-NAFTA and what a good thing it would be for the economy.
There was no equivocation for her support for NAFTA at the time.

Folks were pleased that she came by.
If this is a still a question about what Hillary's position when she was First Lady,
she was totally supportive of NAFTA.

This contradicted earlier claims by Sen. Clinton that she had not supported NAFTA while in the White House,
and it ran counter to her statements made during the heated run-up to the Ohio primary.

A few more details about the Obama passport breach. According to a new piece out in the Post from Glenn Kessler, the breaches occurred Jan. 9th, Feb. 21st and March 14th.

That would be the day after the New Hampshire primary, the day of the Democratic debate in Texas and the day the Wright story really hit.

""During a debate, Hillary Clinton attacked John McCain for supporting the Iraq war, a point that would be more compelling if she had not joined Sen. McCain in voting for it," Obama said.

Obama and Clinton are in a near deadlock in the race to be the Democrats' nominee. According to the Associated Press, Obama has 1,617 delegates to Clinton's 1,498 delegates. A candidate needs 2,024 delegates to win the nomination."

I don't see why they say Obama and clinton are deadlocked since there's no way clinton can catch up?

33. Thursday Morning
This morning Hillary had to be feeling pretty good. She was up 7 points in Gallup and for the first time in the campaign she had gathered control of the news cycle.

Now she is in Michigan and her "let them vote" spin is catching a little traction. The cable shows are going from that to Wright. Obama has trouble piercing the news cycle with his third speech. His speech on race is admired but it is difficult for the media to deal with it. Easier to start up another cycle of Wright

By evening all of the stories are gone. Passportgate has sucked all of the air out of the atmosphere.

Here we have a mystery oh and the reporters can smell the blood- they can see their awards being polished.

Who knew what, what happened with the information, why was their no investigation, who was the bad guys.

Could be 5-6 news cycles and now instead of showing Wright they are showing Obama as he gives his big speeches while they do the voice over.

Just as we go to bed Passportgate is developing 3-4 storylines pictures of a state department Kennedy shleping over to Obama to explain what has and what has not happened.

One more check on the computer and Richardson endorses Obama.

Obama campaign is going to have a week of favorable news cycles.

No wonder they call it Good Friday.

39. "Who Will Tell The Clintons That Hillary Has Lost? "
Posted at Kos by by DHinMI

Who Will Tell The Clintons That Hillary Has Lost?

...A month ago I declared that the race for the Democratic nomination was over;
Barack Obama will be our nominee.
The conventional wisdom is catching up.
More and more, people are realizing that Clinton is hanging around on the dying hope
that Obama will destruct, either by his own hand or the hands of others.
The early indications are that Obama will weather the Wright scandal-ette,
and may in fact come out from it stronger.

Clinton ended up in this situation because she ran against an extraordinary candidate who's run a masterful campaign. But she has also hurt herself. She has never had a compelling message. She ran a safe campaign about experience in an election in which voters are starving for change. She couldn't reel in her husband. The crushing defeat in South Carolina gave Obama big momentum heading in to Super Tuesday; it's unlikely Obama would have won by almost 30 points if Bill Clinton hadn't recklessly insulted Obama, likely pushing even more support to Obama and possibly John Edwards. She eventually fired her campaign manager, long-time staffer Patti Solis-Doyle, but Penn stayed put, Penn and Harold Ickes continued to battle, and her campaign continued to fall behind Obama. While he may be an asshat, the evidence suggests that Dick Morris was right, that Hillary Clinton's campaign was crippled by a dearth of trusted aides who could tell the candidate (and maybe more importantly, her husband) when they were making mistakes, when they needed to change course, and who should be listened to and who should be ignored.

Now the question is, if Hillary and Bill Clinton didn't have anyone around would could tell them when they were wrong, who will tell them the campaign is over, and it's time to step aside and acknowledge Barack Obama will be our nominee?

Jordan is committed to the Clintons, but he probably understands the extraordinary talents and achievements of Obama. In October 2003, five months before Obama won his Senate primary, he held his first DC fundraiser, where he was introduced to some of the power elite in Washington at the home of Vernon Jordan.

...Mr. Jordan, it's getting to that time where you're going to have to break Bill and Hillary the news.

40. Obama in West Virginia Winning Voters (one chicken wing at a time)

Obama in West Virginia Winning Voters

by DJShay Fri Mar 21, 2008

From First Read comes an account of Barack Obama connecting with "beer drinking" voters in West Virginia. This a place that will be tough for him to break through in, but he may have found a way:

Per NBC/NJ’s Aswini Anburajan, Obama often has been billed as the wine-drinking candidate, who’s unable to attract the working-class, beer-track voters that are the staple of the Democratic Party. It's no exaggeration to say that in a sports bar in Beckley, West Virginia yesterday Obama found the answer to winning over those regular Joes. Plopping down at a table with a group of men, he sat, talked, ate two chicken wings, and dissected the NCAA tournament. Why didn't Mississippi State make his final four pick? "They don't have good free throws," he explained. "Pittsburgh is hot," he declared, insisting that it had nothing to do with politics. He told the assembled crowd that he watched ESPN’s Sports Center to unwind. By the end of the visit, the bar patrons -- who had appeared more interested in the games playing on the multiple TV screens when he walked in -- applauded when he walked out.

I love "The Field", they are so clever. And how can you not love Bill Richardson!

Richardson Rides onto the Battlefield

New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson’s endorsement of Obama (The Field said, weeks ago, this would happen) - offered in an email letter he sent to his supporters - was interesting in that it raised a demographic point that the press and pundits have ignored.

In the recent flurry of racial campaigning (and punditry) against Obama, and his speech this week that addressed it, Mexican-Americans and Hispanics - demographic groups that have generally favored Clinton over Obama in more or less the same income, age and gender percentages as white voters - received Obama’s words very positively.

44. Good News - New USA Today Article on Available Funds for Primaries
"Clinton upped the tempo of her fundraising and her spending last month, only to be eclipsed by rival Barack Obama. At month's end, with debts of nearly $9 million, her money was nearly spent and he was sitting atop $30 million in available cash....Obama set a single-month fundraising record, with more than $55 million in contributions.

Both Democrats ended up with more than $30 million in the bank, but Clinton can't use two-thirds of her cash on hand because it's only for the general election. That and her debt left her with less than $3 million in the black. The debt doesn't include the $5 million she lent her campaign in January.

Obama's fundraising juggernaut is unprecedented and gave him a significant advantage this month as they prepared for a confrontation in Pennsylvania on April 22. Obama's spending edge continued into March. An analysis of ad spending between Feb. 10 and March 10 by TNS Media Intelligence/CMAG had Obama spending $17 million to Clinton's $8.6 million."

45. Court dismisses Florida primary lawsuit

Court dismisses Florida primary lawsuit

Federal appeals court dismisses Florida primary challengeBy BRENDAN FARRINGTON Associated Press Writer | AP
Mar 21, 2008

A federal appeals court dismissed a lawsuit against the Democratic National Committee over the party's decision to strip Florida of its delegates to its national convention.

But the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, in a ruling released Friday, said the lawsuit "raises a number of interesting and potentially significant questions," and gave the plaintiff an opening to amend and refile the lawsuit.

The plaintiff, Victor DiMaio, a Democratic Party activist from Tampa, Fla., said he would refile.

DiMaio filed the lawsuit in 2007 accusing the party of disenfranchising Florida's Democratic voters by barring them from having their say in choosing their party's nominee. The party stripped both Florida and Michigan of their national convention delegates because they moved their primaries to January dates that were earlier than party rules allowed.

The Democratic National Committee argued the party has the right to set its own rules and not seat delegates who refuse to follow them.

Bill Clinton has made remarks that seem to undermine Senator Obama's patriotism.

The remarks which include a statement to the effect that a "Clinton-McCain raise would be between two people who love the country without all of this other stuff" (paraphrase)

Todd was asked when he stopped by MSNBC and they were reading the excerpt to him.

He said that the full text was not good and a 'terrible read'. He could not figure out what Clinton was saying that would be good for his wife's campaign.

49. READING BETWEEN BILL CLINTON LINES ABOUT OBAMA?
READING BETWEEN BILL CLINTON LINES ABOUT OBAMA?

From NBC/NJ's Carrie Dann
CHARLOTTE, NC -- At a small VFW hall in Charlotte, NC, today, former president Bill Clinton contemplated a McCain/Clinton general election matchup, saying that it would one between "two people who loved this country" without "all this other stuff that always seems to intrude itself on our politics."

"I think it would be a great thing if we had an election year where you had two people who loved this country and were devoted to the interest of this country," said the former president. "And people could actually ask themselves who is right on these issues, instead of all this other stuff that always seems to intrude itself on our politics."

In the wake of controversy over comments made by Barack Obama's former minister, Clinton's comments could be seen as an effort to draw attention to the issue of patriotism in a state with a high population of veterans.

The former president made the comments to less than 80 audience members at an invite-only event focused on veterans issues. The audience was subdued as Clinton gravely outlined a message of patriotism and honor for military service, The small sea of navy-blue VFW caps nodded along in agreement.

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/03/21/794670.aspx

I can't imagine Clinton doing better than Obama here in NC.

Obama already has some superdelegate endorsements here, and the two democratic
candidates for Governor have endorsed Obama as well.

We are trying to get more Dems in congress and cant do that with a Clinton on the
top of the ticket.

68. Clinton's Ethics Make General Election Win "Next To Impossible"

Obama Campaign Responds With Kitchen Sink Conference Call

Sam Stein Huffington Post Mar 21, 2008

There was a palpable sense of anger among aides to Senator Obama during a conference call on Friday, as they ripped into Sen. Hillary Clinton for being untrustworthy, misleading, and un-vetted.

The call crested with David Plouffe, Obama's campaign manager suggesting that

"It will be next to impossible," for Clinton to win in the general election, when "more than half of the people think that you are not trustworthy."

His reference was a recent Gallup poll that had the New York Democrat with a sub-50% rating on honesty and trustworthiness.

...On NAFTA, he took the New York Democrat to task for claiming a career opposition to the measure when recent White House schedule disclosures show that she attended a meeting in 1993 to push for the bill's passage. The Clinton campaign has stressed that she did this only once in five such meetings and against her private will.

On the controversy surrounding Obama's now-controversial former pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Plouffe criticized the Clinton campaign for being hands off the issue in public, only to push the story in private as evidence of Obama's unelectability.
