My 1000th Post: A Toast!
Edited on Fri Mar-21-08 12:08 PM by Voice for Peace
To everyone at DU (especially the serial posters of GD-P):

You folks have challenged my thinking, informed & inspired me,
illuminated my biases, maddened me, saddened me, made me
laugh (a lot!) provided me a whole lot of great links, and helped
me waste a whole lot of time. With apologies to Alan Jay Lerner,
I salute you:

I've grown accustomed to this place!
It almost makes the day begin...
I've grown accustomed to buffoonery,
chicanery, jejeunery

the sighs, the woes,
the highs, the lows
are second nature to me now..
like breathing out, and breathing in

I was serenely Independent*,
and content before we met!
surely I can always be that way again...
and yet...

I've grown accustomed to this place,
in its totality...
Accustomed.... to.... GD-P

"You see things; and you say, Why? But I dream things that never were; and I say, Why not?"
-George Bernard Shaw

*(now an Independent for Obama; but saluting EVERYONE here, regardless)

13. Absolutely agree. Too much information gets confusing though I have to admit
and I've been having the strangest dreams lately.. I dream in threads with conflicting multicolored posts, no joke.

19. I agree about the waste of time part....10 min to find "jejuenery"
Edited on Fri Mar-21-08 01:04 PM by fadedrose
actually it can't be found because it ain't a word. When you revise the song after your 2000th post, change it to "je·june·ness" or "je·ju·ni·ty," which are both nouns and actually words.

Yes, the waste of time is something we're all grateful to the posters in DU for. :)

25. Congratulations, Voice for Peace
Your screen name reminded me of this story!

The Weight of a Nothing

"Tell me the weight of a snowflake," a coalmouse asked a wild dove.

"Nothing more than nothing," the dove answered.

"In that case I must tell you a marvelous story," the coalmouse said. "I sat on a fir branch close to the trunk when it began to snow. Not heavily, not in a raging blizzard. No, just like in a dream, without any violence at all. Since I didn't have anything better to do, I counted the snowflakes settling on the twigs and needles of my branch. Their number was exactly 3,471,952. When the next snowflake dropped onto the branch--nothing more than nothing -- as you say -- the branch broke off."

Having said that, the coalmouse ran away.

The dove, since Noah's time an authority on peace, thought about the story for a while. Finally, she said to herself, "Perhaps there is only one person's voice lacking for peace to come to the world." - Source unknown
