Red Cross Report Warned of Iraq Prison Abuse

The Associated Press
Friday, May 7, 2004; 10:34 AM

GENEVA -- The international Red Cross said Friday it had warned U.S. officials of abuse of prisoners in Iraq more than a year ago, shortly after the beginning of the U.S.-led invasion.

"Our findings were discussed at different moments between March and November 2003, either in direct face-to-face conversations or in written interventions," said Pierre Kraehenbuehl, director of operations for the International Committee of the Red Cross.

He declined to give details of the contents, but confirmed that a leaked ICRC report to U.S. authorities, published Friday by the Wall Street Journal, was genuine.

<> He said the abuse of prisoners represented more than isolated acts, and that the problems were not limited to the Abu Ghraib prison.

1. I think Kennedy asked him to release them
Rummy agreed and so the sinking of his ship is in sight

Bush is going to demand Rummy's resignation tonight. The RedCross reports are going to be to hard to deny.

That was the one that sunk Rummy's ship

The man is indeed a piece of work; he reminds me of a desiccated "Chuckie."

3. Probably because the Red Cross used Digital Cameras
to document the torture victims.

Even Rummy said the most damaging is yet to come. They are going to reveal testimony concerning beaten to death detainees

4.  Dem. Rep. Ellen Tauscher asked the question!
Not only did they fail to answer the question adequately, they let it be known that they would not be releasing the report that the International Red Cross submitted to them last year regarding prisoner abuse in Iraq--nor could they detail what action were taken at Abu Ghraib and other prisons in Iraq to correct these abuses.

5. Especially when he was whining
About Saddams and Al Jazeeras violation of the Geneva Convention regaring the humiliation of captured American Soldiers by braoadcasting video of them on Iraqi Television during the war.

Anyone remember that?

6. Yes, indeed. But the rules are different for Rummy as he said today
regarding his assertion that the Geneva Conventions did not apply--he said that he meant in Afghanistan, not Iraq. Oh, well--that makes it okay then? Unbelievable!

The fish rots from the head down.
