70 percent of Americans support Rumsfeld.
Edited on Fri May-07-04 06:06 PM by ECH1969
70% of the US public thinks Rumsfeld should not resign.

Seven in 10 Americans said Rumsfeld should not be forced to quit, a view held by majorities of Republicans, Democrats and self-described political independents. The survey comes a day after President Bush gave Rumsfeld a vote of confidence, and as Rumsfeld faced stiff questioning by members of Congress enraged that they were kept in the dark about abuses at the Abu Ghraib prison near Baghdad.

A total of 802 randomly selected adults were interviewed Wednesday and Thursday for this survey. The margin of sampling error for the overall results is plus or minus 4 percentage points.

As new details continue to emerge, the survey found that public views on the way Bush is handling the scandal are divided and not yet fully formed. Fewer than half -- 48 percent -- said they approve of the way the president is dealing with the issue while 35 percent disapprove.

Basically, this poll says that Rumsfeld is quite safe for the time being and the US public would like to pretend our leaders had nothing to do with this. It also means that calls for Rummy to resign from dems could backfire. I am quite amazed at this info and not in a good way.

1. And a majority
believe that Saddam and Osama are connected, that Saddam had a part in 9/11, and that some of the 9/11 hijackers were from Iraq.

People aren't too bright.

2. Being a progressive these days is like being the only sane person in...
...a room full of idiots who are setting themselves on fire to distract from their naked friend.

When will Republicans stop setting themselves on fire to distract the world from their idiot leader?

Everyone already knows he's without his clothes.

Means a large percentage of Democrats also are supporting Rummy, so it isn't just Repugs that are being blind and stupid.

6. Well, I don't mean to distract from the issue, but
A sample of 802 gives a margin of error of +/- 4% ??? I don't think that is the way I learned statistics 35 yrs. ago. Is there a statistician out there who could confirm the validity of these numbers?

9. He only had his hearing with Congress, today. That number will drop as
information is made more available to the public.

10. Good example of false reasoning.
"70 percent of Americans support Rumsfeld."
"70% of the US public thinks Rumsfeld should not resign."

Those two statements do not mean the same thing.

13. Did you read this bullshit?
Two-thirds said the soldiers involved should be charged with a crime. A slight majority also believed higher-level officers should be held responsible for allowing a breakdown in discipline.

A breakdown in discipline?? Is that what you call it? Further pushing into the american mind that this was not soldiers following orders, but a bunch of bad apples gone amok. :grr:
