Should Obama offer Hillary VP position now?
Edited on Sun Mar-23-08 11:12 AM by kentuck
Would Hillary take it? Or is it out of the realm to think he would offer it to her? If it is inevitable that the ticket will have to be unified, why not do it now, rather than later?

If MI and FL are not going to have another election, what chance does Hillary really have? Can she destroy Obama's credibility enough to slip through on the popular vote? If she is successful at doing that, would he be an asset or liability on the ticket? Is it not possible to tear him down to the point that he would not help on a ticket with her?

Also, does Hillary want the VP position? Would she take it? If so, why not do it now? Or is it that Obama would not take her under any circumstances? Would that be wise?

(on edit) What if all the polls show that the only way the Democrats can win is if there is a unity ticket? Do they then bury the hatchet?

2. I doubt if she would take it and I don't feel he should ask.
He will do well among independents in November but will lose many of them if she is attached to the project.

3. No.
Let her go back to being senator from New York.

She has forfeited any place on a national ticket.

6. I think she'd take it in a heartbeat, if only to save face. And no, I
don't think he should offer it. He can find someone better and more appealing to help his candidacy.

Edited on Sun Mar-23-08 11:10 AM by book_worm
but Obama should not take her because she adds nothing to the ticket. If he took a woman VP he should go with Barbara Boxer who is much more experienced than Hillary. One of the things you need in a VP is someone who is loyal and won't work behind your back to undermine you. With Hillary I wouldn't be sure she would be. I'd be thinking that she would be looking out for her own political future.

21. I think Hillary Clinton is not good for the local, country, and state races
we need to win to build the party infrastructure.

We need as blue-as-possible 111th Congress. And the stronger our state operations are, but more likely it would be to see more deeper shades of blue in red state Democrats.

She repels independents. We need independents to win.

Obama should choose someone else.

13. Yes, you're all wrong, he should offer it to her now to keep the conversation
going...judging by your responses so far, Hilary-hate is blinding you to political reality, which HRC recognized early on by saying BO would be a good VP because some combination is needed to get their vast supporters behind the entire ticket. I think it's now the only way he has a chance to win...he has lost so-called reagan dems for good unless he gets her on there, because he sure as heck has not made headway into the working class.

It would move his candidacy firmly to the left (west) of the United States and make a clear statement that things are changing from the Eastern Time Zone politics of the past.

25. Hillary would probably best fit as Secretary of State.
.
.
.

Get Edwards and Kerry in there - one as VP and the other as AG

They both have principles, and little baggage - if any.

Hillary would never be happy as VP

But this whole thing is supposition

Ya really think the PNACers are gonna let the Democratic Party take over the country?

Cheney is scheming -

Count on it.

hone her international skills. If it takes a village, there are numerous villages there she could visit.

After her behavior and her obvious attempt at running again in 2012 by tearing the party apart, I would like to see her disappear. She disgusts me.

33. No
Not because I hate Hillary or because I think she's unqualified. I don't think it would unite the party. The most adamant Hillary supporters will think its beneath her. It won't bring them onboard actively.

There are plenty of other fine women who could serve as VP that would fit the ticket better and they are all from either red states or purple states.

Janet Napolitano from AZ (stretch to take AZ from McCain)
Kathy Sebulius from Kansas
Jennifer Granholm of Michigan (that would go a long way to heal the entire early voting fiasco)

If he needs to balance out his experience creds he has
Richardson
Biden
Dodd
