Whether you like Gep or not you have to give him credit... |
|
for his term "miserable failure". Hell, I'm completely against the idea of him being VP, but I really do love that term.

14. he would be the best vp. his experience would help kerry with congress |
|
comments about a singular act of standing with bush in the rose garden do not take the full measure of this man, he has been a dedicated democrat and friend to the seniors, working men and women, and labor his whole career.
no other vp choice would benefit kerry more in getting a kerry administration's policies past a gop held congress.
it's one thing to win an election, quite another to get done what you need to once in the oval office. gephardt would help kerry get more done than anyone else.
i believe that dick gephardt is a good man and one who cares deeply about america. and for those who malign him and cast stones at him, i ask of them "what have you done for the country over the past 30 years that matches up to what dick gephardt has done?"

3. I think Gep is a "miserable failure" |
|
Under his reign in the House the Dems lost seats and of course, the infamous stand with Bush in the Rose Garden on Oct 10, 2002 makes him Chamberlain II.

4. At least he has some backbone |
|
I never liked him -- the protectionist populism is a failed posture from the bad old days, and he's the living, breathing embodiment of governnance by special interest fiat. But he skewered Bush when nobody else had the guts to and when it played well the others joined in and Bush's people had to actually react. Not something we've seen a lot of in the Daschle/Gore era of vacant party "leadership." So for that, bless him.
But as a Veep? God no. Other than making Kerry look dynamic by comparison, there's no upside.

He was my second pick in the primaries. Yea, it is a nice soundbite he came up with there.

7. Where do we find Geppy? |
|
Perpetually in the Rose Garden sucking up to Bush. Geppy is a DINO. Judging from all his Geppy/Bush photo ops, Geppy is the Bob Dole of the Dem. party.

10. I think he will be Kerry's VP |
|
because of his work for the party and his years of service in congress--these are the things which stand out for Kerry. Additionally because he might be able to tilt Missouri.

He's also favored by RiF to be the most likely cause that RiF jumps ship.

17. Would mean more if Gep hadn't been a miserable failure standing up to Bush |
|
It took Dennis Kucinich to lead a majority of Democrats in the House to vote against Gephardt and Daschle and Bush's rush to an unprovoked invasion of Iraq.
Nice going, Dick.

18. I'd love to give him credit for that |

If he'd been saying it in September-October of 2002 instead of during the presidential primary campaign when he finally realized how monumentally he'd helped fuck us all over.

19. I think everyone here |
|
has already COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY FORGOTTEN what the political climate was like in the fall of 2002. Anyone remotely questioning Bush at the time was unpatriotic. And being Minority Leader, he couldn't afford to have the entire party stuck with that label. You people truly have lost perspective on what those days were like if you are really holding his feet to the fire for this ONE ACT.
