Admiral Joe Sestak (D, Pennsylvania), in defense of Hillary Clinton's "misstatement."
This evening on Hardball, I heard Admiral Joe Sestak, now Congressman from PA, make the most amazing statement in defense of Hillary Clinton:

MATTHEWS: "What are you defending here? Are you defending lying?"

ADMIRAL JOE SESTAK: "You know, Chris, I went to the Naval Academy. There was an honor code there, but few people read that honor code. That honor code says you won't lie, steal, or cheat, but it also says that if you see someone who does, you don't, then you have a choice: you report them or you counsel them."

Well, matey, you might not have read the Midshipmen Honor Concept, but I guarantee you that you were expected to have read it. Here's a summary of what you should have learned:

1. List and briefly describe the four options a midshipman has upon witnessing a possible honor offense.
a. Approach and discuss, then if no violation has occurred, take no further action.
b. Approach and discuss, formally counsel in writing and submit counseling sheet to Honor Chair.
c. Approach and discuss, then report the offense to the Brigade Honor Chair in the form of a formal accusation.
d. Take immediate action by reporting the offense to the Brigade Honor Chair in the form of an accusation.

2. What are the two precepts of the Honor Concept?
a. Midshipmen are presumed to be honorable.
b. A Midshipmen’s statements and actions must always represent the complete truth.

3. State what the “non-toleration clause” is, also specify as to where and how it is applied.
The “non-toleration clause” is a part of the U.S. Military Academy and U.S. Air Force Academy honor code, wherein failure to report an honor violation is an honor violation in itself.

US Naval Academy

Okay. Not only is Hillary saying anything that pops into her head, she's got retired military brass doing the same thing.

6. and from the Major General that was there
The Obama campaign fueled the Bosnia brouhaha Tuesday, sponsoring a conference call with Pennsylvania reporters that featured retired Maj. Gen. Walter Stewart of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. Stewart said he was assigned to the Army's European headquarters when Clinton visited Bosnia as first lady in 1996. He said her claim that she landed under enemy fire insulted U.S. soldiers charged with her security.

Clinton's explanation that she misspoke was "really astonishing," said Stewart, who supports Obama.

"She has no sense of what a statement like that does to soldiers," Stewart said. "She is insulting the command in its entirety."

"Believe me, heads would have rolled all over" if the military put the first lady and her daughter in a position of "unacceptable risk."

9. That was one of the most awful surrogate defenses I've ever seen.
He's just not sleazy enough to pull it off--he's a decent man mixed up with bad people.
